The Ellysian Wars Military Conflict in Calandor | World Anvil

The Ellysian Wars

While in the current year, humanity and elves are seen as two equal powers, one harnessing science and the other magic, this was not always the case. Ages ago, the vast difference between the two races had led to the conquest of humanity for over 200 years.
Under the rule of the elves, humans lived as second class citizens. They did ,however, retain some of their rights and humans gifted in the magical arts were allowed to rise to positions of power. The end goal of their conquest was assimilation, not extinction.
In the year 800, under the rule of the high elven king Tolith the 3rd, there was trouble brewing in the air. It all begun in the old capital of Ellysia, where Jarveth Dosk, a powerful human mage that was quite beloved by the people, was captured and executed on grounds of treason. This event was the cataclysm that led to the creation of the legendary revolutionary group called the Ember Fist Society.
Four years later, violent human uprisings happened at the same time in five elven cities: Ellysia, Elthelin, Filenor, Ilnas, and Mevalin. A great many lives were lost on both sides, but the humans succeeded and subsequently perfomed a mass exodus. This event is known as "Humanity's Last Exit", and is the subject of many songs and ballads.
After that, the remaining humans in elven captivity were executed in an act of ethnic cleansing and a series of battles begun, aptly named "The Ellysian Wars", that spanned over 300 years. The battles weren't constant as there were brief periods of respite inbetween, but whenever an opportunity arose the conflict was ignited again. The war was officially over in 1123, following the destruction of Ellysia. A peace treaty was signed that still stands and to this day peace reigns among the lands.
  For now.
