Amada Commune
The Amada Commune (Laurish: Comuna de Amada) was a revolutionary socialist government that took over the city of Amada, on the coast of Laurena, in the year 1084-4a. It began during the Suso-Lauren War, when a rogue brigade of the National Guard stormed Fort Maroon, and used its stockpiles to arm the desperate population of Amada. This brigade, nicknamed the Brigada Vargas after revolutionary leader Catarina Vargas, held on to the Amada Peninsula for over 7 months before finally being defeated and suppressed by the national Lauren Army.
One of the first recorded instances of socialist governance, the commune established radical policies for its time, including women's suffrage, collective ownership of farms and factories, and the full abolition of rent, child labour and the death penalty.
