Fellbane

“The blade that ends empires sings only for betrayal.” — Tarnithian Proverb

Type

Cursed Weapon

Origin

Forged in secret by exiled fey who defied the Sacred Cycle and sought dominion over life and death. Its creation was fueled by corrupted essence stolen from the Feywild and bound to a soul that could never rest.

Wielder(s)

Dorian Nightshade — former Knight of the Emerald Flame

Description

Fellbane is a sinister greatsword forged from blackened twilight-steel, veined with crimson runes that pulse like a heartbeat. Its blade is unnaturally cold to the touch and constantly drips shadow like smoke in water. Its hilt is wrapped in shadow-weave leather, and its pommel is fashioned to resemble a raven’s skull.

Powers

Curse of Despair: Wounds inflicted by Fellbane resist healing and cause creeping dread in those who survive them.   Voice of the Forgotten: Whispers of those slain by the blade echo around its wielder, granting insights—or madness.   Ruinbound Edge: When used in betrayal or vengeance, the blade sharpens unnaturally, cleaving through even enchanted defenses.   Echo of Ambition: Empowers the wielder’s strength as long as their motives remain selfish or destructive.

Myth & Legacy

Once hidden beneath the roots of the Forest of Nightshade, Fellbane was unearthed by Dorian Nightshade, who fell to ambition’s call. He wielded it during the Siege of Caelwyn’s Hold, mortally wounding King Caedryn and shattering Tarnith’s unity.   The sword disappeared after Dorian’s fall—some say it returned to the soil, waiting for the next betrayer bold enough to claim it.

Current Status

Unknown — Believed to be dormant somewhere within Tarnith’s haunted places. Whispered sightings hint it may rest once more in the Forest of Nightshade.
