Arkona Family
The Arkona family, headquartered nearer Vudra's capitol, grew a small branch into a sizeable foothold, seizing key positions along the Northern Edge of the city just a decade ago. They capitalized on the flow of commerce into the city and established dominance through sheer violence and aggressive tactics. To aid them in hostile expansion, the Arkona family introduced firearms to the city in earnest and, in so doing, becoming the foremost providers of black powder and firearms in the region. More recently, the family has also expanded the use of fireworks, especially during festivals, tempering some of their violent reputation in the populaces eyes.
The Arkona family’s wealth is primarily drawn from their control over the blackpowder trade, fireworks manufacturing, and firearms production though their expansion into protection schemes and racketeering has added to their coffers. They have a fierce and grim reputation, feared and hated by many, though their rapid expansion of the Northern Edge has won them a modicum of respect for their ability to control their territory. Their dominance in the docks and their violent methods have earned them both enemies and reluctant allies among the other families. The Narayana Family sees them as unruly, the Yamazaki despise them, and the Kalyani tend to avoid direct confrontation with them.
The Arkona family is led by Glorio Arkona, who rules from afar in the capital, leaving his cousin Rajendra Raatri to control the family’s operations in Port Hawe. Rajendra is ambitious and blunt, seeking to expand the family’s influence further throughout the city, even at the cost of friction with other families. Rajendra's ruthlessness is well known, with rumors suggesting she killed her older brother to solidify her control over the family. Though the family’s thugs are feared in the Northern Edge, they are often seen as a necessary evil, with the other families viewing them as a wild card—dangerous, but lacking the finesse of true power.
