Vudra

Vudra is a vast island-nation occupying the eastern half of Southern Quarren. Standing apart from the dry wasteland of it's neighbor, Vudra has a wide range of biomes going from dry desert's nearer the mainland, to rolling hills and forests around impressive mountains. Vudra's government consists of more than one hundred mahajanapadas: semi-independent kingdoms ruled by rajahs. These rajahs in turn serve the Maharajah, an emperor-like figure said to have the blood of rakshasa and angels in their lineage.

Culture

Vudran culture is a varied tapestry of interests as wide spread as the topography of Vudra itself. In the northern portion of the island-nation where the tropical winds sweep across lush jungles, life is a whirlwind of plantations, bazars, and celebrations. The inland mountainous regions bear hardy people with a love of brewing mead and ales while further south and west the cultures blend with the mainland Utasu and Astralvyn. In most of Vudra religion is a core pillar of society with several gods holding particular places of honor and several localized demi-gods or powerful divine servants are rife through out the local pantheon.

Public Agenda

Vudra as a whole is a mercantile nation seeking to leverage it wide array of goods and commodities to gain standing in the regional markets of The Shattered Seas and throughout Quarren. This is accomplished by the semi-autonomous kingdoms which make up Vudra and ensures that healthy competition thrives within the nation.

History

The various kingdoms and families that make up modern day Vudra were long disperate powers. For more than 2000 years, these city-states; powerful dynasties; and fledgling empires warred across pre-breaking Southern Quarren and against the old Utasan kingdoms. 130 years before The Breaking, Pravarasena Bajpeyi, said to be son of a Rakshasa and the island of Vudra itself, set out to bind the disparate powers together. The ensuing war nearly shattered the island but Pravarasena was able to unite the kingdoms of Vudra as a loose confederation with himself as the Maharajah. They retained much of their autonomy but had to seek the Maharajah's arbitration in disputes. In this way Pravarasena was able to curb the millenia of bloodshed and turn Vudra into a harmonious nation.

The Breaking nearly destroyed this dream 112 years later. As the mainland of Southern Quarren turned to a dry husk, Vudra too suffered. Her coast were ravaged, cities leveled, and people decimated. Many of the old blood lines ceased to exist and Pravarasena disappeared. But his heir, Saurandhri took up his mantle and restored the nation one-by-one to a semblance of it's brief glory. The cities have been rebuilt and new lines started.

Now, Vudra thrives with a multitude of cultures sharing the island in harmony under the current Maharajah, Srijan Bajpeyi.
