Age of Fog

0 1206

The oldest recorded age, lasting a countless number of years. According to legend at the beginning of the Age of Fog the three gods split the primordial race into 3 separate beings, creating the Human, Halfling, and Dwarven races. This gave each of the gods a race to rule over, they proceeded to wager which was the most faithful. The God of Wit favored the humans, who used their strategical thinking and exceptional communication skills to build great cities and become a military powerhouse. The Dwarfs attracted the attention of The Chained God for their ingenuity in construction and craftiness through crafting superior items to any race. The Halflings and their earthiness and general good nature caught the attention of the Radiant Goddess. Each of the races were tested many times during the age of fog, but only one conflict, between the Humans and Dwarfs, is remembered by history. No one really knows how long the age of fog lasted, but the year 1206 has been agreed upon as an end as the gods had lost interest in their games.

Age of Discovery

1207 1263

The Age of Discovery is defined by the discovery and attempts to explore the continent of Ohes. Ohes was discovered seemingly by accident when a trading ship was blown off course and landed in the foreign land. When word reached the mainland a race ensued to claim the vast wilderness across the sea. Early colonizers found themselves in a dangerous, monster infested wasteland, proving that any settlement made here was out for a rough start. Out of the several hundred settlements only one ever survived the test of time, Domhain's Reach. After the establishment of Domhain's Reach the Age of Discovery came to a halt, ending the relativity short second age.

The Founding of The Federation of Independent Cities
    Founding

The Federation of Independent Cities (FIC) was founded when Areohollow felt that the rapidly expanding Sladovia was a threat to its existence. The city of Areohollow reached out to Walenstal, Visite, Sunów, Drangholt, and Pallivos. The city of Areohollow wanted to create a long term coalition with its neighbors to ward off the war hungry Sladovia. All but Drangholt accepted. The new FIC quickly became an enemy to Sladovia through land disputes and moral conflict causing a resentment to exist to this day.

Age of Industry

1264 1548

The Age of Industry was kicked off by the invention of a wind powered crank that would grind grains into a flour on a mass scale. From them on inventions using a outside energy source started to escalate exponentially. The two biggest political powers at the time, the countries of Sladovia and the Federation of Independent Cities (FIC), were helping to drive this force as each one was trying to get an advantage over the other in their constant wars. Notable inventions from Sladovia include: adamatite steel, gunpowder, rifled firearms, and airships. Notable inventions from the FIC include: steam power, railways, electricity, and the Warforged. The rapid advancements in technology paved the way for mega cities like "The Clockwork City" Areohollow in the FIC and Chitina in Sladovia. Areohollow is a mechanical wonder, with one central machine driving the cities public transportation, defense systems, heating, cooling, and lighting systems. Chitina " The Forge" got its name because every structure in the city, somehow contributes to the smelting process of adamatite. These mega cities are the culmination of what defines this age.

An international Railway station linking the Federation of Independent Cities and Sladovia was built in hope for a more peaceful future between the two cities. The rails were built by Boyd Industries and funded partially by both counties. Later it was found that Sladovia paid Boyd Industries to allow the country full control of both stations, starting another conflict between the FIC and Sladovia. The railway was declared independent ground in 1437.

Rise of the Mega City / The Clockwork City
    Construction beginning/end

Areohollow became what is now known as a mega city when Wolfgang Dinan completed his work on the "Central Clockwork Computer" (CCC). The CCC is used to drive every mechanical or electrical machine or system in Areohollow. The trolleys on the street, lights in buildings, even pumps that remove smog are run from the CCC. This causes everything in the city to work on a certain, unbreakable, schedule. The technological marvel has yet to be replicated as Dinan was very secretive on the specifics of his machine, and no schematics have ever been found.

    The 70 Year War
    Military action

The 70 year war began when the FIC attempted to invade and overthrow the government of Drangholt, a border city of Sladovia. A bloody and drawn out war ensued as both sides pillaged, burned down cities, and murdered countless civilians. Neither army ever gained or lost a substantial amount of territory, but both suffered severe casualties. Sladovia erected a wall on their border to halt the FIC from invading their land. The FIC responded by erecting a wall of their own just 2 miles south of its twin to the north. A treaty was only considered after a Son of a Sladovian Barron and the daughter of a FIC councilman fell in love and desired to be married, allowing the two counties to counsel. The treaty effectively ended the fighting, but a heated hatred between the countries still exists.

    The Warforged
    Technological achievement

Wolfgang Dinan and several scientists from Boyd industries created a machine with the ability to act as a breathing person and make its own decisions. The machines were based off Dinans' clockwork design from Areohollow, giving the machines their autonomy. These machines were the Warfoged and were used to bolster the armies of the FIC military. Boyd industries was impressed with Dinans' work and offered him part ownership in their company. Dinnan accepted Boyd Industries became Dinnan and Boyd Enterprises. In the years after the 70 year war, the organic population of the FIC military and many civilians in the city-states became scared that the Warforged would unite and attempt to overthrow their masters. This fear lead to the FIC banning the manufacturing of Waforged indefinitely.

This launched a movement to find out what he did, leading to the first school of magic, making Tavers the first wizard. From then on the whole world seemed fascinated by this new way to manipulate energy. This fascination culminated with a magical event that obliterated a whole city and transposed a large chunk of Ekix.
