Domhain's Reach

Domhain's Reach is the pinnacle of survival against all odds. The inhabitants are constantly locked in a battle of survival with beasts and creatures native to the large continent of Ohes. The colony was established in 1234 to honor the wishes of the late explorer Conall Domhain who wanted to settle and explore every inch of the new land. When Domhain was mortally wounded while exploring deep in a forest in 1216, his team packed up and left. After almost two decades, the remaining original team, Domhain's son Bran, and a few other volunteers went back to the original campsite to establish a permanent colony. Centuries later, it has proven to be the only successful colony ever to be established in Ohes.

Demographics

Domhain's Reach has attracted a very diverse population as it is the farthest away from either the FIC or Sladovia. This makes it especially attractive to magical races to live away from the Wild. Wealth is distributed based on a person's hunting prowess. The better the person is at hunting and defending the city, the more food, water, and booze rations they are given. The exception to the rule is the chief and any medics. Medics are given rations based on the number of patients healed, and chiefs are dictate how many rations they receive on any basis.

Government

Domhain's Reach is governed by the bloodline of Conall Domhain, as their family was always renowned for survival instincts. The laws in the city dictate that everyone but children and the elderly must contribute to the continued survival of the city or exploration of the vast continent. Currency is not used in a traditional sense, as the only payment anyone receives in the city is in the form of rations. Merchants are paid in rare minerals, furs, materials that are gathered during exportation. The city guard also acts as the police force for the chief. Anyone deemed a danger to the city is reprimanded, this punishment is solely decided by the chief.

Defences

The city is surrounded on all sides by a wall. There are four gates that face each cardinal direction that can be barred by adamantite bars. The wall is garrisoned at all times by city guard armed with crossbows, firearms, and ranged magic. Large towers on the wall contain cannon batteries for especially difficult battles.

Industry & Trade

The citizens of Domhain's Reach make a living by performing one of many jobs. Examples of these jobs include: hunters, explorers, medics, smiths, and city guards. When a person completes a task they earn a credit in their name so they can receive a ration of water, food, or alcohol of their choice. Each ration can last one person roughly three days. Most of the resources needed to run the city come through trade. With the lack of official currency trading is done by bartering, with hunters and explorers bringing back valuable items that merchants will trade for new weapons, food, boats, etc.

Infrastructure

The city is a fortress in its own right. Citizens are housed based on their function for example, hunters live in the outer wall, city guard live in strategic points throughout the city, and the chief resides in the center. A generator for electrical power resides in the underbelly of the city with exhausts sent up to the surface outside of the city. A harbor on the west side remains outside the walls, but garrisons with city guard keep watch. Buildings are pumped fresh water that has been filtered from the ocean.

Assets

The city contains a vast armory of weapons from around the world. Food is stored in several underground warehouses to keep it from animals. Materials found during expeditions are loaded into shipping crates and wait at the harbor for the next trade ship to arrive.

Guilds and Factions

Domhain's Reach is pulled in two directions by two different factions. The first being the Domahin family, who controls the city, the cost of rations, and act as ambassadors to the outside world. The hunters lodge represents those who contribute to the protection of the city. They fight for more sizeable rations, better medical care, and the ability to plan their own expeditions.

History

The continent of Ohes was discovered seemingly by accident when a trading ship was severely blown off course and landed on the western shores. This started an explosion with several thousands of people leaving Ekix to attempt colonization. The hostility of the natural fauna and creatures drove most colonies to failure within months of landing. The only exception was Domhain's Reach. The name comes from Conall Domhain, who at the time explored deeper into Ohes than anyone else. When he was killed, the rest of his party retreated and left Ohes. Almost two decades later his party returned with a larger group, including Conall's son Bran. They established a colony at the site that the party originally made their first camp. After about a month the first reinforcements came in the form of mercenaries and avid hunters. The reinforcements would come to find a camp that looked like a war had torn through. With the additional help, the fledgling camp managed to put up temporary walls, followed by permanent structures. Not long after that the city began to thrive, with Bran taking the role of Chief. When the FIC was formed, the city chose to remain neutral, as they did not fear Sladovia for it wouldn't set foot here just to be slaughtered by nature. Today the city acts as a bastion of civilization in the land ruled by nature.

Tourism

Tourism does not exist in the traditional sense. Most people who live there are hiding from a government or someone unwilling to go to the ends of world just to catch them, are hunters who want to hunt more dangerous monsters, or explorers that want to chart unexplored areas of the continent. When people go to Domhains' Reach they go for the freedom from the world across the sea.

Architecture

The city is designed with defense as an absolute necessity. Garrisons are strategically placed through the city, large towers equipped with powerful cannons to ward of larger creatures. Catacomb like tunnels underneath the city allow for citizens to escape the city if it is ever needed. The city walls are made of a cement reinforced with adamantite Buildings are made of brick, stone, and wood.

Geography

The city rests upon a cliff on the western shores of Ohes. To the east dense forests span the horizon.
