Mjúltic

Mjúltic1 is the official language of Mjúlt, a goblin republic in the western Southlands, spoken by the mjúltans. It belongs to the northern branch of the coastal goblinic languages and is most closely related to Öþranic spoken in easternmost Jælondis, though mutual intelligibility is limited due to the mjúltans' relative isolation from the rest of the world.
Notable features of this language include certain phonemic mergers (such as /l/ being pronounced the same as /l̥/ or /ai/ being indistinguishable from /ɪ/), and the vastly different ways many consonants -and to lesser extent vowels- are pronounced, such as öþranic /ɢ/, /ɹ/, /th/ and /θ/ becoming /h/, /ʁ/, /θ͇/ and /θ̼/. Combined with the characteristic fast pace of speaking, very few outside Mjúlt other than some linguists and sailors have a good grasp on the language.
Much like the mjúltans, the language is often parodied by other southlanders as being inscrutable and sign of backwardness, with slurred speech or mumbling something often likened to mjúltic.

Writing System

Traditionally written using the öþranic alphabet, mjúltic is currently written using a variation which better reflects the language, notably featuring fewer letters than the former.

Geographical Distribution

The use of mjúltic is concentrated almost entirely within the country of Mjúlt, save for a few speakers living elsewhere on the Southlands or to lesser extent eastern Jælondis.
