Kikrans

The kikrans1 are a diverse group of Lowland Dwarves who inhabit the republic of Kikra in central and northern Ójom, who are currently form one of the main ójomic dwarven nation along with the Njóþans to the south.

Culture

Apparel

Traditional kikran clothing mostly resembles that of other ójomic dwarves, though it has given way for more modern styles in some ways, particularly in major cities, such as jeans, hooded tunics, long-toed shoes and, most recently, duckbill shoes.

Art

Architecture

As in northern Ninnirt Zö and most other dwarven countries of Ójom, the majority of towns and cities are divided into two sections, one on the surface with primarily wooden structures, which is inhabited during the warmer months of the year, which connects to an underground section that mirrors the former where most of the inhabitants move into during the winter. In some places, most of the townsfolk live underground year-round, while the surface part has been converted into shops, taverns, hotels and museums intended for tourists.
Stilt-houses are also used in the eastern part of the country, as are houseboats.
A common feature in all these styles is a tradition of decorating homes with elaborate carvings on most surfaces, whether above or under the earth, featuring everything from flora and fauna to religious imagery to historical characters and scenes from everyday life.

Cuisine

Traditional kikran cuisine commonly features the meat and offal of cattle and sheep, fresh and dried fish, dairy products, barley bread- and porridge, mandrakes, leafy greens, mustard, onions and ale, though it varies greatly between regions, such as the diet of those to the west resembling that of the Pfiqelans in the Qug Mountains, those to the south are influenced by the njóþans and to the east the legacy of the goblin empires still lives on the the people's many fusion dishes. The lattermost is characterized by the use of various bulbs and tubers other than mandrakes and onions along with cereals, and a preference for steaming instead of boiling food.
Much of this fusion cuisine has declined in the recent centuries, as they are discouraged by many other kikran communities to distance themselves from the goblin legacy.
