Technological achievement

The appearance of ships able to cross the Sea of Fire and the open ocean killed the profitability of the guild's land-based freight transportation.

With new maritime routes opened for transportation of large quantities of goods, the limited service provided by land transportation faced fierce competition.  The Guild of postal courrier closed its unprofitable delivery service, but kept governmental role of message transmission. Courriers were seen as more reliable than ships, due to maritime travel still being very unsecure.   Stilll, from 920.I onwards, the Guild of Postal courrier's importance dwindled along with its allowed budget. Roads of lesser importance were left without maintainance, and only their use by locals and independent travelers prevented them from turning back into bush.
