Feasts of Veesii

Let's celebrate the end of harvest season, and embrace the cold months. In the end of Veesii , often during the month of Ploeii, fancy festivities are organised in all villages of the Blue Sea. It's a time for all to gather around a large fire, for two days of sharing food, songs and ale.   To celebrate the year's harvest, everyone brings some of their food to share with neighbours and friends. A few heeruses, the fattiest ones, are butchered to feed everyone. The preparation usually takes several days, during which everyone participate in preparing bread and vegetables, meat, and bringing lots of wood to burn.   All the village's tables are brought in the center or in a mowed field, and the feast starts with lighting the bonfire. For fourty-eight hours, they take turns in playing music, taking care of the fire and cooking, eating, having fun. Any traveler is welcome at the celebration, for it is a feast of sharing and cheering.

In one of his letters, Ola Guiom once described his experience of this northern tradition:
As the first evening of celebration was about to start, I decided to reach a higher ground. As the sun was disappearing, the first fires were lit and from my elevated hilltop, soon the plain was as a sky full of stars. And the cheerings raised up to me, and the wind brought me the aromas of grilled bread, meat and herbs. It's with a stimulated appetite that I came down to the village.   The villagers showed to me the very nature of happiness. Children were running and turning around the fire, The face of youngsters were red with love, and in between all the joy, was a true sense of friendship. As a southerner and stranger, they treated me as family, offering the finest food and ale that the year had offered. Fruits were served to accompany the juicy meat. Their sourness, mixed with alcohol and bread, made us all forget of the cold, blowing wind.
