Chizeo's Philter

During a Balloon Pox outbreak, the husband of the alchemist Chizeo contracted the illness. It affected him greatly. Unable to watch the disease crush his spirit, she stopped her studies and devoted herself to researching a cure. She was the alchemist that discovered diuretics spread the disease through the body faster. She recognized it was better to leave it trapped in the extremities. Her research led to finding medicines that also pooled in the far capillaries to treat the disease directly. While compiling a list of compounds and their sources her assistant disappeared with some of the test samples. Undeterred, she replaced the few samples that were most likely to be effective and continued research with the remaining materials. Shortly afterward news came that her missing assistant had been apprehended following the poisoning of a local lord. While the lord did recover, they missed an important meeting with a rival neighbor. Chizeo was afraid of implication in the poisoning, but fresh rumors of conflict between the lords seemed to keep anyone from investigating. With news of armed skirmishes on the border, and calls to arms for all the able-bodied she completed her first compound. With the Pox outbreak, there was no shortage of volunteers to try the untested formula. The first tests made the volunteers sick and caregivers were afraid to leave them without bedpans for long. While Chizeo refined the compound, the first volunteers recovered and most of the symptoms of the Pox had vanished. Soon she had a formula that didn’t cause so much distress and shortened the Pox to a few days. If used at the first sign of symptoms it stopped the disease from causing more than itching for a day or two. Later, it was discovered Chizeo’s Philter could be rubbed on other swellings like bruises or sprains. This led it to be mixed with a combination of beeswax and cooking oil to make a salve which is in common use, though the name is only remembered by the healers.
