Ereman

One of the oldest peoples in Blivera, Eremen hail from the island of Eremere. The island first became a temporarily unified kingdom in the late first century BTD, during the War for the Light, though this was without the Rocklands and dissolved following the war. It became a permanantly unified kingdom in 555 EL.   Its constituent kingdoms, high earldoms since unification, are Thendanor, Dregonvell, Lylelor, Arkenstead, Springmore, and the Rocklands. While each have distinct history and some distinct customs, they are mostly consistent across the isle.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

In Eremere, men are expected to be strong, both physically and morally, and be prepared to fight for their ideals. Loyalty is highly acclaimed, and men are encouraged to become leaders. Amongst the nobility, men are prioritised over women in succession, and dynasties are passed down patrilineally.   Women are not seen as weak, but are not expected to lead. Their role as wives is seen as highly valued, and they often place amongst the highest of their husband's advisors. They take their husband's name upon marriage, but rather than being subserviant to their fathers of husbands like in Tembra, they are seen to bolster them. These ideals have their origins in the role the goddess Viola played in the divine wars during Sanctity.   While these gender roles are widely observed and expected, exceptions are not supressed or commonly discriminated against. Legendary figures such as Daldriana Whitehart serve to facilitate this flexibility.

Relationship Ideals

Relationship ideals are based on the precadent set by the gods, primarily Lumar and Viola. Their marriage sets a firm standard for the nobility and a more flexible one for the poor folk. Non-marital relations amongst commoners are not punished and their children are seen as legitimate, but noble children born out of wedlock are illegitimate. These standards, like those of Lumar and Viola, are based on divine relations that existed outside of marriage, such as Averbrawn and Lehaxis.   Homosexual marriages are not permitted in the Faith of the Light and are not legally valid, but common law marriages sometimes take place amongst the common folk. Nobles are expected to follow the heterosexual example of Lumar and Viola, but there is vast variation surrounding treatment of homosexual nobles. The most famous example is Princess Nyra, who in the eighth century EL took a female paramour. King Harran tried to supress it, while both his predecessor and successor took no action.
