Unholy Tablet

After Nayya Kullurrya and her team returned from exploring the Horn of the Abyss deep underground, they brought back a strange stone tablet. On the tablet were symbols of unknown origin that still glowed a faint purple glow. Little did they know that the tablet's power would spell disaster for the Sellunar.

The Sellunar Massacre

"Let this memorial stand as a reminder of the cost of carelessness." - Engravement on the Sellunar Massacre Memorial
On a bright summer afternoon in 791 1E, a young but accomplished mage named Kitlarrin was experimenting with the tablet. He tested to see if there were still any magical energies within the artifact. He believed that if he could tap into its latent powers, he could perhaps discover its purpose. Attempt after attempt, Kitlarrin got nowhere with his experiments. On the cusp of giving up entirely, he made one last attempt, focusing intensely on tapping into the tablet's magical energies. With one last effort, Kitlarrin finally accessed the tablet's power.   The tablet was activated for the first time in untold millennia, unleashing its power upon the Sellunar Academy. In an instant, the spell struck every person within the building, filling the academy halls with a cacophony of agonized screams. Blood spilled from their eyes and noses as the tablet's spell pulverized their brains, their hearts slowly torn to shreds by an invisible hand. Their suffering would only end when their bodies could no longer withstand the torture.   Kitlarrin only tapped into the tablet's power for a mere ten seconds, but it was long enough to kill everyone inside the academy, save for Kitlarrin. When he turned his focus away from the tablet, Kitlarrin was greeted by the lifeless silence he had created. When he opened his study door, he was greeted with the bloody bodies of those struck by the spell. The more he walked through the corpse-strewn halls of the academy, Kitlarrin understood the magnitude of what he had done.   Kitlarrin returned to his study and wrote his final notes on the tablet, an instruction to destroy the tablet. Before officials could investigate the incident within the academy, Kitlarrin found a sturdy tree within the arboretum, bringing with him a strand of rope and his last note to the world. When Mor Iristalnak guardsmen investigated the now lifeless academy, they found Kitlarrin hanging from a tree branch.
"After what I've done, I don't deserve to live. A slow and painful death for myself is the only thing that will make this right." - Kitlarrin's Scuicide Note
After the massacre, Archmage Kalar and groups of students out on expeditions were the only remaining members of the Sellunar. When they returned to the academy from a meeting with the queen in Mor Sectum, the stench of death was all that remained of the once bustling academy. With the academy's legacy ruined and most of the Sellunar's members dead, the order was disbanded. The academy was abandoned and left as a rot until city officials ordered it to be demolished in 802 1E. The order wouldn't be reformed until 196 2E when Warkuyya Barromoor reformed the order in Mor Kinkarra.

Current Location

After the incident at the Sellunar Academy, Archmage Kalar retrieved the tablet from Kitlarrin's study. Within his tower in Utek, Kalar attempted to destroy the tablet to prevent another catastrophe; unfortunately, his attempts proved fruitless. Seeing no other option, Kalar brought the artifact to Tekra Letsivir, the headquarters of the Orkina Temple, to safeguard it from the wrong hands. The tablet, now named the Extinction Sigil by temple officials, was locked away within their vaults. It remains locked away in the temple under the tightest security to this day. If the artifact were ever to get loose, it could spell untold calamity for Stelwen and perhaps even all life on Nostrina
