Nilanthalas and Elenlindë

The Twin Elvish Kingdoms: Nilanthalas and Elenlindë

Nilanthalas – The Vanished Forest Realm

“The trees whisper their sorrow, the roots drink of our past. Nilanthalas is lost, but never forgotten.”
Type: Former Elven Kingdom Ruler: King Caerithon Greythorn (last ruler, presumed dead) Primary Inhabitants: Wood Elves (Grugach and other tribes) Territory: The entirety of the Great Forest, once spanning from the Silvermere to the Shadowpeaks. Fall of Nilanthalas: 210 years ago, overrun by goblins in the event now called the Clay Rising. Current Status: Now a haunted, overgrown ruin, infested with goblins, monstrous beasts, and cursed remnants of the past.

History

Once the wilder heart of the Twin Elvish Kingdoms, Nilanthalas was a vast woodland realm, where the Wood Elves lived in harmony with nature. They were skilled hunters, Druids, and wardens, their society built around deep reverence for the land. However, despite their strength, they stood as the junior partner to the High Elf kingdom of Elenlindë, which often dictated diplomacy and war.   When the goblin hordes surged forth in the Clay Rising, their crimson-orange masses swept through the woods, setting fire to sacred groves and driving the elves from their hidden sanctuaries. King Caerithon Greythorn and his warriors fought to the last, but Nilanthalas fell. Now, only scattered survivors and hidden enclaves remain, whispering of vengeance and waiting for the day the forest is reclaimed.

Alliances

At the time of Nilanthalas' fall, the Wood Elves had formed a strong alliance with the Dwarven Kingdom of Dern Kalduhr. The dwarves, facing the same goblin threat, sealed their kingdom to protect their people and preserve their way of life, though at great cost. Despite the sealing, Dern Kalduhr survived and remains a bastion of dwarven resilience.   The Wood Elves also maintained a client-state relationship with the gnome kingdom of Teenkdiwar, a network of skilled tinkerers, craftsmen, and spies who provided vital support. Teenkdiwar’s survival after the fall of Nilanthalas is uncertain, with many gnome enclaves being overrun by goblins or forced into hiding.

Notable Figures

  • King Caerithon Greythorn – The last ruler of Nilanthalas, his fate is unknown, though some say his spirit still lingers in the ruins.
  • The Briarthorn Clan – A sect of Grugach known for their brutal rites of wisdom, many of whom still haunt the lost forest, impaling themselves upon trees in search of visions.
  • Jinwing – A druid of ancient times, she has awoken from a deep sleep to find her homeland lost.

Elenlindë – The Ancient Kingdom of the High Elves

“The stars guide us still, though their light now cast shadows on a lesser world.”
Type: High Elven Kingdom Ruler: Queen Vaerilith Starborn (status unknown, presumed dead) Primary Inhabitants: High Elves Territory: Once spanning the gleaming spires of Celutharion and beyond, now occupied. Relation to Nilanthalas: Senior partner, but failed to save the Wood Elves during the Clay Rising. Current Status: A faded realm.

History

Elenlindë was the elder kingdom of the Twin Elvish realms, its people steeped in arcane power and celestial wisdom. From the ivory towers of Celutharion, they guided elvenkind, treating Nilanthalas as both a sacred ally and a subordinate protectorate. Yet, when the goblin tide rose, Elenlindë hesitated. The Wood Elves’ calls for aid went unanswered for too long, and by the time the High Elves mustered their forces, Nilanthalas had already fallen, sealing their fate as well.

Key Settlements

  • Nythla Aethel – The capital of Elenlindë, a magnificent city of shimmering towers, built to touch the stars. Now a shell of its former glory, its remnants stand as a symbol of the elven spirit.
  • Elaththas – A military settlement built on one of Elenlindë's distant islands. It served as a defensive stronghold, ever vigilant against goblin incursions or any threat to the kingdom.
  • Galan Lenora – The great port of Elenlindë, once bustling with trade, ships, and elven culture. Today, its waters are ruled by those pirates and smugglers that dare haunt its ruins.

Notable Figures

  • Queen Vaerilith Starborn – The last known ruler.
  • The Starborne Seers – Mystics who fled ahead of the devastation, claiming to have foreseen a coming restoration or final doom.
  • Lord Theron Sylvanranth – A warlord and former noble, now known as ‘The Dragon,’ who took a darker path after the fall of Nilanthalas.
