The Defenders of the Cross Upon the Wood Military Formation in Beyond Greater Anghor - A Middle Earth Adventure | World Anvil

The Defenders of the Cross Upon the Wood

Decorated Veterans

The dawn of the third age gave way, yet again, to evil forces in the West, and a growing darkness in the deep forest of Mirkwood. In response, Thranduil the wooden elf king, created a new platoon of his most decorated Silvan Archers. He christened them Elisen, and bestowed upon their leader, Elasha - his defense expert - the solemn duty to bring the fight to the enemy.

Disgraced and Stripped of Honor

The Defenders fought with honor for two hundred years. Until Filnar, enthralled

Rebirth

Unbeknownst to Elasha, The Forsaken, four of her best soldiers, hunted the deep woods in search of Filnar and their revenge. They cornered and killed him, without ever obtaining sanction to do so from their lord. Thranduil banished them from the Woodland Realm. Elasha bore this disgrace as well, always thinking she should have pursued the justice and saved her soldiers. As retribution, she reformed Elisen and renamed them The Defenders of the Cross Upon the Wood. Their new duty would be to patrol the edge of the Mirkwood and beyond, a company bound by shared disgrace and stalwart determination.   It is believed Thranduil knows of the Defenders actions, for he knows all that happens in his realm. But he has so far chosen to turn a blind eye to his ex-subjects deeds, likely knowing it is better to have more elves in the field than less, his wrath, and his honor, already duly mollified by their initial disbandment.
