Vasugan Marshes

The Vasugan Marshes encompas a vast region in the South of Beru, flanked by The Sapphire Run and the Bay of Serpents.

Geography

The marshes hear are partially tidal in places due to the proximity to both the Blue Dagger Lagoon and the Bay of Serpents. The marshlands are brackish in nature, with more freshwater pools towards the West and salty pools to the East. 
Deep mangroves dominate the landscape with large trees looming overhead. The air here is filled with the noise of insects buzzing and strange creatures calling throughout the day and night. 
Most of the land is flat with only a few places of consistantly dry land found towards the centre of the marshlands. At the heart of this space sits a vast network of rifts and canyons that act as a drain, during seasonal high tides the whole area becomes the largest waterfall in Beru.

Ecosystem Cycles

The ecosystem here sits in a perpetual summer of its own creation. The swamps act in a similar way to the rainforests of the Greenshield Jungle. In the morning there is a thick fog that covers the first few feet of the floor that burns off towards midday. If storms blow in from the south then the whole area becomes chaotic as the natural balance is shifted. Depending on the direction of the prevailing wind, the air can become oppresively heavy and breathing becomes challenging. 
During the seasonal high tides that occur four times a year naturally, sometimes unaturally, the area becomes flooded with saltwater from the Bay of Serpents to the east. This deluge causes the waters to drain into the rift network at the heart of marshland.

Natural Resources

The area is rich with life in all varieties. Massive creatures stalk the swamp throughout the day and night, and the wide diversity of plantlife here makes the area a prized hunting ground for skilled trackers. Often hunters from Pitax and Villambard will meet here to compete for the best kill. 
Herbalists throughout Beru highly value the rare medicinal ingridients that can be found here and will often pay adventurers large sums of coin to retrieve these prized plants.
