Chamber of Mammon

Purpose / Function

This is the study of Mammon, where he keeps numerous books, occult items, and furnishings.

Design

The room is circular, with a diameter of 125 feet. The gray walls are oblong slabs of stone, burnished nearly smooth. There are 12 columns in the walls, leading to a curved dome ceiling under which mage lights drift. The floor is slightly darker and spans out in rings. Askew, to the left at a 70 degree angle, is a 35 foot platform that follows the curvature of the wall for 70 feet, tiered in three sections with the highest in the center. The wall behind is a massive bookshelf that rises to the ledge where the ceiling starts to curve, filled with books.

Entries

There is a single entrance, a 15-foot wide doorway that rises 25 feet and possess paired ebony doors with iron handles.

Sensory & Appearance

Light comes from mage lights that float below the ceiling, with several others drifting 30 or so feet in the air to light the ground. It smells of books and wood, though there is always the looming scent of a catacomb. The room is cold, but not uncomfortably so. It has a slight echo, and often feels overwhelming and intimidating, yet it lacks any hostility, much like Mammon himself.

Denizens

A reanimated goblin skeleton stands beside the podium at all times, awaiting orders from Mammon. It acts as his assistant for physical tasks like retrieving books and items.

Contents & Furnishings

The highest section of the raised platform holds a desk and podium, both of dark wood with leather embedded in their surface. A high-backed chair padded with red velvet and fringed with macabre designs sits behind the desk. To the right, an iron astrolabe and a granite table inscribed with arcane sigils are fringed by two wooden tables. The other side has a second desk, this time with a chair on either side that face each other. On the other walls are wooden shelves with various artifacts and items Mammon has collected. One of these shelves is a glass case. In the center is a ornate pillar. The top is concave like a bowl, and has a hole in the center. The rest of the room is scattered with piles of bones of every humanoid race. A pit fiend skull is prominent atop the pile before Mammons main desk, and numerous other skulls litter the piles.

Valuables

In the glass case are numerous coins of great beauty and rarity. They are nearly priceless, and constitute Mammon's personal collection.   Standing within a frame is an enchanted lute that plays itself, able to perform any song one can think of in some form or another. It is composed of a wood not known anywhere in the planes, and the strings are fine nytemare hairs. This item is a gift from an undisclosed benefactor, and is likely the only one of its kind.

Special Properties

If a person places a Dead Man's Token in the center pillar, Mammon will grant them one hour of his time, wherein they may discuss something with him. A person who does this may never do so again, and those that have tried have always disappeared.

Architecture

The building is of bleak, Gothic architecture indulgent in design.
