Forged in Blood: A Tale of the Crossing and Crusades

I was a boy when Aveaas fell and everything was lost. I had a wife and children, a steady home and job, but I was still a boy.
Now I am a man and have no wife or children, but I have seen a new kingdom emerge and cities rise. Everything is gained, and I am to start anew.
— Forged in Blood
Forged in Blood is considered to be the strongest first-hand account of the crusades along the Blood Route, and is an anonymous scribe's autobiographical telling of his journey from Aveaas to Ethaeras Capitol. It chronicles the Last Godstorm and the destruction of the city, the disputes between the groups of crusaders along the Blood Route, and emergence of the new city of Ethaeras and the Kingdom of Ethana.

Spoiler

Evander Balassar, Leski Corver, and Ryven Bekkerd are all mentioned to have copies of the book early on in the trilogy and coincidentally are the three point-of-view characters who end up forming the revolutionary council. Evander's copy in particular appears to be annotated and well-read.

As a Taught Text

Forged in Blood is required reading in all primary schools across Ethana, and is taught in most schools throughout Beourjen as well though it's not required there. Separate 'educational versions' of the text are often used for teaching in the BC, which omit the last forty pages of the text in which Ethaeras Capitol is built as it is argued to promote Ethanian monarchy and policy.
