Ring of Spears

The mountains that once served as the wall of the city of Sharzelad now mark a graveyard. A heavy fog now surrounds the tops of these mountains gently falling between the peaks adding a foreboding visage to the chilling history of the city. There are many tales of travelers going even near the city seeing or hearing ghosts haunting the city. Very little remains intact of the city as it was the focus of the god of vengeance during his cataclysm, but on a clear day from the outskirts of Düncaster, the crumbled dwarven walls can still be seen with long weathered and tattered banners still flapping bleached in the sun.   The former capital of the dragon hunters of Rhyderia, during the height of their power, even including right before its fall. Norvasul was no longer considered the capital after Sharzelad was created early in the second age. Sharzelad was in a more defensible position which made their capital easy to defend through numerous wars both civil wars and those against other enemies, seeing most of its use against orc attacks on their lands. It was here that the seven sultans, the then rulers of the dragon hunters, met to rule their people, this is where the decision to hunt dragons was made and nearly as many atrocities were committed in the streets of Sharzelad as in the Cinnara. When the cataclysm formed it was above Sharzelad and in an instant was wiped from the face of the world, for over a hundred years the fragments of buildings cast into the air remained floating with just a portion of the power the rage of a god brought down upon the people that lived there. In this day it is still abandoned rumors remain that it is haunted by those who were slain in an instant forbidden from going to their rest by the lingering hatred of a god. To those who do travel there, they see a blasted land with only nature claimed rubble and the remains of where buildings had been marked only by the foundations left behind. It is considered one of the worst places to be during a blood moon as the borders between the living and the dead are weaker during this time. There has been no confirmed report of hauntings or hazards there but the memory of what happened there causes most to shudder.

Adventure hooks

A Harrowing:   Brave and Foolish your band travels to the ruins of Sharzelad too near to a Harrowing and find yourself stuck there due to a string of bad luck leaving your wagon broken down and horses scared off. As the light of the blood moon shows over the ruined city the city once more exists, shrouded in a sickly green light as the spirits of those who fell that day return to life to relive their death again and again. It just so happens that it wasn’t just humans, elves, dwarves and other mortal empire races that died in that city. As spectral echoes of long-dead dragons who were tortured and brutally murdered in public demonstrations had their fear and pain live on long after they died, and their souls brought back into the cycle of rebirth. These wraiths stalk the streets bringing their vengeance on any in the ghostly city, living or dead.   Ghosts and Orcs:   Somehow the orcs have managed to establish a large encampment in the ruins, but unlike others for some reason when a Harrowing comes, they are not destroyed or runoff. This makes them an even greater problem with a great mystery surrounding them. A mission has been formed to find out information about the orcs there and how they managed to avoid the fate of others who sought to claim the ruined city. Once enough information is gathered then a plan to eradicate the orcs will begin.
