Powerful beings are no stranger to Belthuran and many have plagued the world in one way or another. Gods are the most widely known beings of power that are worshipped by the masses. Then comes the Eikons and Living Gods.   In Belthuran there is a distinct difference between A god and a living god, which is also known as a lesser deity or even avatar. All gods can have a living god that borrows from their power and acts as a champion or example to their cause, not all gods make use of this privilege though. Should a living god be slain it does damage the god itself, but only slightly and only for as long as it takes the god to find a new mortal to take the role.

Gods

A god is or was an ancient primordial from before the formation of the world. These primodrials either chose to serve the World Forger or were made to. They embody certain ideals that are important to for the world and reality to even exist. This of course raises the question of what happened to those who refused to serve. There is no solid answer to this for even this truth about the gods is hotly contested by the mortals who worship them. One legend says that those who refused to become stewards in the form of gods were still made useful. That the World Forger created massive Entropic Oubliettes to imprison them. These prisons would become celestial bodies within the material plane, planets, moons, stars, and so on. This is said to be how the Entropic Oubliettes were first created by the first beings of Belthuran. The legend fails to state if Belthuran itself is one such prison, but that goes against the teachings that the Elemental lords formed Belthuran to be the anchor of the Great Binding, multiverse, & Arcane.   The gods are what you would expect from the word, a very powerful being that represents some facet of reality and empowered by acts of faith. The only being that has been proven able to slay a god is the World Forger but it is suspected that a god can kill another but it is a risky business as they could also be slain in the process. This level of threat mostly keeps the gods from directly acting against each other which is why their version of angels exists, often led by their Living God.   Among the Gods there are different levels of power, while any god is an extremely powerful being they have no power over a more powerful god. Should for example a lesser god seek to interfere in the affairs of a more powerful god, they will need the help of a god of equal if not higher status. There are four tiers of god; Nameless, Lesser, Intermediate, and Greater.   Nameless Gods Are manifestations of essential forces of the universe but have yet to be given a name and as such have nothing to present potential followers, their power is limited by the standards of a god but they do enjoy the perks of being divine.   Lesser Gods These are the gods who have either been given a name or chosen one for themselves, they have started to develop the religion around themselves and are seeking to grow their power. They are still able to give their clerics the full range of spells though they may not have very many empowered followers.   Intermediate Gods This is where many of the gods of Belthuran sit, their faiths are established and their power recognized. There is strife between the many gods but most remain stagnant in this position either unwilling or unable to grow their faith and portfolio to grow further.   Greater Gods There are only a few of these, those with the portfolio that governs the strongest concepts felt by mortals often fall into this role. Most of the gods who were formed via apotheosis between a mortal and an existing god from Nameless to Intermediate are in this category.

Living God

A living god, or avatar is a mortal that becomes empowered by the god, they become some small aspect of the god usually representing only a small portion of the god itself. In a case like Sobeyr the Living God of Rhyderia and avatar of The Platinum Knight, he is an example of chivalry to an almost impossible standard to humanity. He serves as a beacon and example to inspire Rhyderians to further acts of nobility and honor. While Sobeyr and all Living Gods are extremely powerful they are still technically mortal, they do not age or need the normal necessities of life unless they desire them. They can, however, be slain still. This does make them targets of enemies to their god between this and their power they often keep to themselves choosing to exist in a temple or other place of worship to isolate themselves from those who wish to harm them and the faith or to prevent their own accidental harm to the world.
