Brume

Content Warning: Brume is a narcotic that is used within the setting.

Brume is a dangerous narcotic that can be prepared in multiple ways, the main ingredient is a staple export out of Ormir. This chief ingredient is lavender wide grain rice that is milled down to a flour. The rice by itself is actually quite useful for normal applications and grows well in most temperate climates and can be used as a meal itself or often a flour. The rice itself is something akin to a hybrid of wheat and rice. The plants are a lavender color while growing and slowly the color drains out into the rice grains which is when they are harvested. From here the process to create a variety of Brume is started. All types of Brume must be inhaled and are prepared with various ingredients to determinethe type. Burning ingredients and mixing with other reagents turns the Brume into a vapor when exposed to air to be inhaled, as such glass bottles with wax seals are a common means of holding Brume.   All Brume is a narcotic that can create a very serious addiction, some are far more effective than others at creating an addiction and largely is based on potency.

Vesper Brume

Otherwise known as the Prayer Mist, at one point it was given to those who were hyperactive to calm them down. It creates a sense of lethargy causing one to wish to sit in silence. It goes beyond this as those under the influence of the Vesper lose their ability to speak for the duration and are overcome with a sense of lethargy that makes the body feel like it is made of lead. The mind can still form thoughts but they are simple and fleeting the ability to process most sentences or concepts beyond the most basic is lost. Some people desire this state of sloth to avoid their problems and simply exist.

Prisma Brume

Otherwise known as Rainbow Mist, Prisma Brume is one of the more popular forms of Brume. This variant causes a sense of wonder and fascination in the one partaking in it. They begin to see colors and shapes of intricate patterns. Supposedly it allows someone to see the flow of magic when watching a spell be cast, but most simply take it to go into a stupor and watch pretty lights dance in front of them for hours. Needless to say, this presents a true problem for productivity but those who partake in it can get addicted quickly finding normal life to be bland, bleak, and without color and wanting their next dose all the more. Colorblindness is a known side effect but as the colors are a hallucination to the user they can still see all the colors when they partake.

Entheogen Brume

Otherwise known as Lover's Mist or Euphoria Mist is the other of the more popular forms of Brume. The ability to make it is known but the process is difficult and mostly not understood, some speculation believes that it was a love potion that failed in such a way its creator began the process of creating this variant. When two or more people share a batch of the Entheogen they become able to feel sensations from the others. A touch of magic in the mist links the parties' nervous systems on a subtle level having them experience both their own sensations and the others. This is a very expensive but some would say entirely worthwhile experience to have. It is of course a favorite of those enthralled to the pursuit of hedonism. Addiction is very easy with this Brume and often causes the users to feel like they need the Brume in order to have any kind of intimate interaction. Depression and or feeling isolated or their senses dulled are common side effects of those who use this Brume.

Morbis Brume

This Brume is perhaps the most niche market and is allowed through the faith of the Arbiter at the whim of their higher clergy. This Brume causes the user's eyes to glaze overlooking as if dead. This Brume allowing them to glimpse partially past the veil of life and death. The faint images of spirits and ethereal beings can be seen, also the various sprites of the world, in particular the Mortus Sprites that linger around graveyards and those who kill often. This Brume is used to examine graveyards and even see where a spirit might be bound to unable to move on, while the Brume doesn't allow communication it allows the living to see what they should not. A common side effect is heightened anxiety or paranoia of knowing and even seeing phantoms all around them, this feeling goes away when a new dose is taken, those who partake say it is because they can keep their eyes on the phantoms, but the Brume is just preventing them from caring. It is largely believed that should a user fall asleep while under the effects of Morbis Brume, they will enter a death sleep never to awaken again. (Restoration and greater Restoration are needed to cause someone to reawaken, but it is a difficult check to determine they are alive and not dead as even their heart rate is slowed to almost nothing.)

Traqus Brume

This Brume was developed by certain radical elements within the Tavori as a means to deal with dangerous mages. Their actual purpose is to subdue Sorcerers, the Brume is a method of essentially robbing a person of their emotions entirely. It is believed that without their emotions they are unable to call upon their magic, or will simply not feel the need to. This also hinders the Terrorgheist by virtue of the sorcerer being entirely unphased by the Terrorgheist which is also believed to be weakened as a result.

Manufacturing process

A proper setup to produce Brume uses many of the same components as an alchemy set, a metal alembic is used to burn the dry ingredients with a small bellows designed to force the resulting smoke through various tubes that saturate the fumes in an alcohol solution that binds the fumes until it hits the air and the alcohol evaporates releasing the Brume. The final step is to seal it in a glass flask and the process demands the flasks be in a vacuum, it doesn't need to be much of one but the idea is the flask will then suck in a portion of the Brume. although next part seperates the quality of Brume if any air gets into the flask before a seal is formed the quality diminishes.

Brume in most forms is readily available in all major cities and large towns, often they are prepared in smaller communities or out of the way places and smuggled in by the various criminal elements. Raw materials & Components
Vesper Brume is created by mixing the Lavender rice flour with wormwood and yew essence.
Prisma Brume is created by mixing the Lavender rice flour with the dried and ground dust of Feycap mushrooms and phosphor.
Entheogen Brume is created in one of two methods, both involve taking the lavender rice flour. The first more common and less potent variety of Entheogen Brume uses a mix of oyster essence the water used to hold the essence MUST be from a magical source such as a create water spell, pulverized eggshells from different creatures (it doesn't matter what kind, so long as they are different).   The rarer and Greater Entheogen Brume is also known as Baaphora's Brume as it requires a drop of blood from a Concubus to produce mixed with the lavender rice flour, a bead of amber. The mix melds with the amber and that is what is burned to produce the mist that must be inhaled. While the bead is small often no bigger than a coin the amber will burn for a long time and produce thick clouds of fumes. It is a favorite of orgies particularly those in the Dark Carnival or hedonistic cults who worship Baaphora.
Morbis Brume is mixed with the lavender rice flour, and the liquid from smashed winding willow leaves, with the pulp, then dried and ground into the mix.
Traqus Brume is mixed with the lavender rice flour, with Crismathyst dust. and some unknown other reagents.
