The Bonebeard Pirates
A legendary group of pirates that menaces the Fomaen Islands. Led by a supposedly immortal pirate, they have essentially gone to war with the Aurous Fleet.
Structure
The Bonebeard Pirates are, predictably, led by Captain Bonebeard, a seemingly immortal pirate who has led the pirate crew for decades. His job is to manage the various ships in his pirate fleet and what they are doing at any time, as well as ensuring that each shipped is staffed by a Mate, and that those Mates stay loyal.
At any time, Bonebeard will have up to five Mates, one for each ship. Their duty is to run an individual ship, giving out roles from the given crew, ranging from bosun, to the quartermaster, to even the chef. If a crew fails on their mission, or acts against Bonebeard's interest, it falls on the Mate's shoulders, not the rest of the crew.
Culture
These pirates care only about one thing, enriching their pockets in anyway possible, especially at the expense of other people. They pillage villages for whatever they want, taking captives for hostages, or even dragging people back to coerce them into joining their ranks, whether as a pirate or as a worker back at their headquarters in Skull Town.
While most of the pirates are content to just pillage and enrich themselves, Bonebeard himself seems to have deeper plans, and some of his more trusted Mates have a similar view. Instead of just storing wealth, some of the higher ups in the crew also have goals of grandeur, homing to carve their names into the tapestry of history, becoming pirates of legend.
Public Agenda
The Bonebeard Pirates are very open about their goals of enriching themselves through plundering and raids. However, in recent years, they also claim to be fighting for the freedom of the Islands from the Aurous Fleet, representing the unshackled way of life the Islanders are used to. However, many doubt this, as they are often just as oppressive, if not more so, than the Fleet.
Assets
The pirates have five ships, three man o' wars, a barque for treasure, and a brigantine. While small for a major pirate fleet, the skill and ruthlessness of those in the crew more than make up for this. They also have a large central base in the difficult to get to Skull Town in the southern Fomean Islands. This base has a large number of crew, a whole armory filled with swords and flintlock pistols, as well as a whole fortress for Bonebeard himself and any prisoners they are holding for hostage. Within the fortress, there is supposedly a large vault with all of the gold Bonebeard has ever stolen.
History
Almost one hundred years ago, a vicious pirate by the name of Bonebeard appeared out of nowhere and started a war with the greatest pirate lord at the time, Randall the Umbral Lord. Despite seemingly being completely outmatched, Bonebeard killed the Umbral Lord and took his island as his own, founding Skull Town on top of the ruins of the old lord's fort. Since that day, Bonebeard has prowled the oceans as a veritable legend, recruiting anyone who has the same wanton cruelty as him to his crew, as well as elevating anyone that seemed to have the same sense of ambition.
For the last hundred years, the Bonebeard Pirates have been a facet of the Fomian Islands, with no one able to topple them. Despite supposedly being human, Bonebeard still lives, according to his Mates, ruling them from his fortress in Skull Town, although that is debated among many. Recently, the Bonebeard Pirates have gone to war with the Aurous Fleet as the latter has been trying to control the Islands.
