X-Net Item in Behind the Veil | World Anvil

X-Net

The letter X is innocent enough. A letter of the alphabet used in words and mathematical equations. This letter has so many more meanings. A show in the 1990's, called the X-Files used the letter to mean black listed or buried unexplained cases within the FBI. It was also the code name for a character who gave Mulder and Scully some of their most valuable information after the death of their former informant known as "Deep Throat". Due to the show and the popularity of paranormal science, X became synonymous with highly classified paranormal or supernatural events. So it was no surprise that the worlds nerds, hackers and technologically advanced peoples would create a dark web entity simply known as X-Net. The supernatural does indeed exist. How most people cannot see that is beyond the scope of comprehension to some. Maybe they live in denial? Maybe the human brain can really only handle so much before it shuts down and denies what it is right in front of it? No one knows for sure, Yet. There are groups of people who want to know the truth. Who want to get the truth out there for all to see. They actively seek out the unexplained and document it, film it if possible and broadcast it to the world via the X-Net. The letter X is put on the doorway or side of a building to let others know that the truth and those who seek it are welcome here. Since the X-Net is ran by hackers extraordinaire, they have encoded something-similar to a QR code in the X to prove it's legitimacy. You can find these symbols all across the globe, from large metropolises to smaller rural towns with surprisingly good WIFI. A person just needs to take a picture of the X with their smart phone, the code will be automatically picked up. If the organization recognizes the phone, the person is granted access. If the picture taker is a newbie, the QR code embeds a program within the phone to scan everything. This will grant X-Net access to all their files, pictures, videos, emails, accounts, anything that is linked to their phone. The user does not know this, and it is all done behind the scenes. Potential funding and surveillance at it's finest. Once a person is vetted, they will be granted entrance to the building.
