Born the third son of the Di-wife, Xiaojun was ignored, for the most part, for his elder brothers. Having met his elder sister (who fell head over heels for her littlest brother in an instant), he strove to be like her, an untouchable, powerful cultivator. At the appropriate age, he joined the sect and never looked back. Under the watchful eye of Sect Leader Lao Minghui, he grew an interest in pill-making, herb-harvesting, and the way that consumed chemicals change and shape the qi inside a person.
However, he began experimenting with pills that weren't the norm, and while they boosted his strength, they depleted quite a bit of his inner reserves of minerals and elements. So, now, he has a permanent deficiency that can only be cured by taking pills. He makes these pills by hand, along with the ones that strengthen his body and cultivation. His prowess in pillmaking became known far and wide, and now he is the premiere pharmaceutical expert in the region.

As Lao Xiaojun has spent most of his adult life concocting and testing pills on himself, he has developed a deficiency to certain elements. He corrects this by taking those elements as pills. It has formed a sort of... dependency. If he goes without for more than four hours, he'll start to become shakey.
Personality Quirks
Brings his sister, Sect Leader Lao Minghui, fresh flowers weekly, which she keeps alive via Qi Infusion. These flowers are grown in the greenhouses, and therefore are not always seasonally appropriate.

Doesn't worry too much about cleanliness while he's in his garden or at his cauldron. But anywhere else, he is immaculate.

As a son of the Lao Clan Ducal house, their contacts are his own contacts. As third son, however, he has to be very careful about who he can call upon for favors. Mostly, however, his contacts are from his own work as a Cultivator and Pillmaker.

Religious Views
Lao Xiaojun is a devout worshipper of the Goddess and her Deva wife. He has a shrine to the two of them in his rooms, on which he leaves daily offerings. Part of his cultivation involves thoughtful prayer before their altar. He believes in the reincarnation cycle, although he has had no serious proof. He believes all marriages should be like that of the Goddess and her Deva wife.

While beautiful and just, he is standoffish. Snappish. He doesn't take kindly to what he deems frivolous, and so he isn't very popular with those around him. He would definitely have died if he were in the imperial court. To those he cares about, he is quietly attentive and sweet. He has a romantic heart, and if he were interested in someone (and knew it) he'd make beautiful, impossible-to-miss gestures.

He doesn't hold back, verbally. he's also well known for lambasting people who are doing stupid things near him. That said, when nervous, he has a childhood tick of tugging at the hem of one of his own sleeves. An unexpectedly cute shy gesture, that makes him seem much younger than he acts.
Hobbies & Pets
He is a gardener to the core. He has a spread of land right outside the door of his rooms at the Sect, and it is where one can find him when he's not teaching or running errands for Sect Leader Lao Minghui. He doesn't like animals, as most either dig in his garden, eat his plants, or defecate where he doesn't want them to.

XiaoJun was born when MingHui was already an adult, so it is difficult for her to always remember that he is an adult now as well. She does love him so, but he tries her patience with his treatment of others, and she doesn't quite understand why he acts the way he acts sometimes. Xiaojun often feels like Minghui is trying to mother him, instead of being his sister.

However, he sends a significant amount of his own wealth back home to support the Ducal family too, else he be labeled unfilial.
