Out of shape but not underweight or ill, Ruyi doesn't exercise if she can get away with it. She's generally a little plump around the hips, but otherwise fine. Ruyi only gets sick when the seasons change, like most people.

Personal history
Ruyi was the beloved only daughter of two very happy Chinese immigrants. Both of her parents were lucky enough to come from wealthy enough families that English was a language they learned in their youth. Ruyi grew up switching between Mandarin Chinese and English. She grew up going to private schools that her father and mother, one a dentist and the other a lawyer, were very willing and able to pay. Never boarding schools, however. She was too well-loved for that.
She was a bit of a loner in school, preferring to spend lunches with the classroom pet, or outside. She wasn't considered stuck up, because she still smiled and talked with everyone. She was just very much an introvert.

Flunked out of her gen-ed year of college, not from lack of trying, but rather from lack of ability to focus. Untreated mental illnesses kept her failing. She was on the verge of deciding if she wanted to go back to school for veterinary practice, when she was stolen away. She has a solid high school education under her belt, however.

Ruyi has been employed by four different call centers in 2 years. Generally, after about 4 months at one, she starts getting bad reviews, and then she just slowly quits.

Mental Trauma
Has had memory loss before. At least twice in her life, she has woken up without remembering how she became unconscious. The first time was in elementary school, her mother told her she was only out for six hours. She later discovered that her mother had downplayed the time, and she'd been out of school for three days. She still doesn't know why her mother didn't talk about it, as she changes the question or hums loudly whenever Ruyi brings it up. Since then, Ruyi has kept a diary religiously. She marks the days and times when she writes things down, both start time and end time of each entry.
The second time, she lost two weeks. Her mother reported her missing after two days of her not coming home, but she came back on her own, unable to remember the last two weeks or where she was, and the police found nothing. It became another thing her mother wouldn't discuss with her, and a source of constant anxiety for Ruyi.

While Ruyi lives by modern morality, she does believe in practicality. She's the type of person who, when watching a zombie movie, disagrees with the main character offing a potentially helpful character because they're dangerous right now. She is also the type of person who makes plans for how she'd survive the zombie apocalypse before it ever happens.
Ruyi doesn't believe in gods, although she does believe that the spirits of the dead watch over those living. She also still makes offerings weekly for her grandparents.
