Session 46: Much Fighting

General Summary

28th Conditori   We fought the Umberhulk and killed it. Cave looked to be a burrow - not possible to tell if it was burrowing out or in, but likely inwards. Robyn wanted to leave, Rel and Liv went further in. Found a hole to a corridor underground with slate-like walls. Had a short rest in the cave before heading down.   Symbol on the wall of the corridor, Saman recognised it as the symbol of Daquen, Prince of the Water, god of oceans, seas, lakes and rivers, son of Ogren and Lilliana. Rel and Liv remembered the name from the diary in the Waterworks. Continue to follow the corridors around, being as sneaky as possible. Corridors split in several directions with stairs going down.   Found an altar with objects on it
  • blue-black crescent shaped stone
  • stone goblet with runes around the base and set with a pearl
  • stone-carved hook
Saman picked up the goblet and annoyed a Water elemental that attacked him - seemed to engulf him. Resistant to physical attacks. When it was defeated water went everywhere, washing the objects around the room. Rel finds the stone, Saman notes its magical, Rel summons water from it - just fresh water, a few skinfuls. Runes on the goblet were translated by Saman, they say:
  • They who drink from the Stone of Tides be refreshed for all time
Keep going down the corridor, find bones along the way, some snapped with great force, some humanoid, not sure where they came from, others look like the bones were melted. Claw marks on some of the walls. Air in the next room is clammy and stagnant, has an antechamber, alcove with a table and broken vase. More claw marks, and a palm-size kite-shaped stone in the wall, old but not as old as the bones upstairs, not magical, looks like a scale that rubbed off a creature (spoiler: it's a fucking dragon).   More stairs going down - double back to the first fork of stairs to check before heading further down. Find a large room with a balcony overlooking it, stairs going down, broken humanoid statue in the centre. More claw marks all around the balcony and corridor. Stairs made out the same stone as the walls, but statue is different. Statue in three pieces, standing pieces, two on the ground, one holding the hook that matches what was on the altar, the other hand is the large goblet. Rel reckons it might be to the prince of oceans. Penny thinks temple may be built on water source so worth heading further down.   Go down the other corridor and find a room with shelves and 5 chairs. Rel finds a book that is in tact, not destroyed - can't tell if magic right now. Book is perfectly preserved, written in Common, "The Manual of Bodily Health" - Liv has it as it interests her. Five chairs are all facing the centre, 3 on left, 2 on right. Chairs are carved with stone with a symbol on each one. Except one chair is a goddamn Mimic - Kill the mimic. Chair symbols: jug, boat, crown, symbol of Dequan.   Head back to the putrid-smelling room - poison fungus growing on rotten corpses in there. Head down nto an immense chamber, could fit all other chambers in it comfortably. 150ft wide by 100ft long pool of water in the middle with an island with "stuff" on in the centre, piles of bones and metallic items. Pool looks intentionally created. Rubble all around, looks like they used to be streets of sorts, like a residence area. Robyn stays near bottom of the stairs, back to the wall and torch ready to light if needs be, set to cover Saman as she can see his light source. Saman drops lit rock into pool to see how deep it is, then a large creature emerges from the water: glaring green eyes of a young black dragon.
