Aka the Whip

Shattered Clan Chieftess

While the exploits of Chort the Massive, chief of the Shattered Claw clan of orcs and one of the legendary Heroes of Trevaunt, are firmly forged in the annals of history, few have heard of Aka the Whip, his wife and chieftess of the clan. It was she who held the clans together after her husband ventured off to fight, and she who helped to weave the deep alliance with the Silvermoon elves.   While most orcs used to treat their females as little better than slaves and breeders, the Shattered Claw clan was a breed apart. Aka had the same authority within the clan as Chort, and her sharp tongue and fighting prowess assured the respect of those they led. She became the intermediary between orcs and elves, and due to her dedication and diplomacy, a deep and abiding friendship was borne.   It is said that without Aka, the orcs would likely have refused the aid of the elves and the protection that their forest allowed. They would likely have gone the way of the gnolls, exterminated in their entirety by the fiends that invaded Bastarre. Instead, they have prospered and become great allies in the service of good.   -Wynth Onyxorb, bard of the Singing History Guild

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Aka was born into the Shattered Claw clan when it was ruled by the chief Kodo the Unforgiving, who was much like any other orc in his treatment of the females of his clan. Aka was never one to accept the status quo, however, and this led to a number of punishments. It is also how she gained the honorific of "the Whip," as her sharp tongue was her greatest weapon.   She was just approaching breeding age when Chort, a male orc of unusual honor, strength, and size, challenged Kodo for chiefdom of the clan. Chort was not much older than Aka at the time, but already greater in size than the average full-grown orc. Even so, Kodo accepted the challenge with the expectation that he would win. However, the day of the challenge was the last day of Kodo's life and the first of Chort's days as chief.   It took very little time for Chort to ask Aka to be his wife. Aka refused at first, choosing to wait and watch him and decide if he was truly the kind of chief, and husband, of whom she would approve. It was only a few months after his initial proposal that she went to him to accept, with the caveat that she be treated as his equal. He agreed, and the two became a force to be reckoned with not only among their own clan, but among others as well.   Aka bore Chort three children: two sons (Taak and Kovith) and a daughter (Chayta). The oldest was only seven when he last saw his father, but Aka taught them well of the greatness of the chief. She made sure that they accompanied her to every meeting between the orcs and elves, determined that they should help to assure that her husband's desire for an alliance was brought to fruition.   Aka's diplomatic skills and her determination assured the survival of her people and cemented a deep alliance and friendship between orc and elf. Even her death demonstrated her dedication to the alliance, and her name is exalted among both races.
