Bastarre

The world of Bastarre had little that set itself apart from other worlds for most of its history. Civilizations rose and fell, populations faded and grew, adventures were had, enemies and friends were made and unmade, and life went on relatively normally.   Then came the day of the Hellgate, which would change life forever on this no longer mundane world. Who or what instigated this cataclysm is unknown to most, as is the means by which it was done, but obviously powerful magic was employed that resulted in the appearance of a permanent gate connecting Bastarre and the Nine Hells. Fiend after fiend flooded onto the world, bringing horrors upon Bastarre and her people that eclipsed all that they had ever seen.   During the near millennium that has passed since then, the devils have become an everyday part of the life of Bastarre’s people. Each archfiend has his or her pawns, their influence resulting in cruel and ruthless leaders who revel in their power. Very few places on the world have gone untouched, their tendrils of evil slithering through all but the least desirable or most protected areas. The elves continue to use their magic to keep them at bay, and others use whatever means they have to resist. And while many things have been lost, hope still remains among many as they look to the past for their greatest heroes.   In order to prevent the fiends from using their position on Bastarre to spread throughout the multiverse, the four elder gods stepped in to curtail them. With their combined magic, they closed off Bastarre, as well as her sister world Jaggol, which had been infested likewise, but with demons as opposed to devils. None can leave the world save through the gates, which guarantee death, or worse, to all but the fiends who hail from the realms to which they lead. No word of these worlds or what happened can spread past them by any means, magical or otherwise.
