Session 46: Scallywags: A Giant Scalpel for a King's Armada

General Summary

It is the 3rd of Ghost's Memory, the month of remembrance for the folk of Barur, and the crew of the Horizon's Call is saying goodbye to friends, for some, that they have known for years, for Thej is now clearly captain of the Razor. He must leave to find safety for almost fifty dragonborn refugees trying to escape the tyranny of the Faces of the Kings. This kingdom has sought necromantic means in hopes of establishing divine rights and powers, those only gifted now by the few hearts of pure dragonkind still here. Dragonborn, although yes they are born of the dragon, they are not dragon in and of themselves. There is no more dilution to harness, but the King still strives, still needs to see this as part of a future he can control.
Aikhon takes his time to say goodbye to many of his new friends, as well as Thej, Neroon, Weebs, Torth, Jack and Jim--they all now press for a most important occasion, and the young dragnborn treasurer of the Call even sends a magic message to inform Feanger Dovah of the incoming shipment, and also a hopes to dock again in Feon after the Call investigates the fall of the Star to the West of the Grey Coasts, a hope for sparkling gold scales to protect them from the fires of arrows and explosions alike.
It is also during this meeting that the Scallywags notice that the crew is fearful of Valia, unsure of if what happened to E'krae was indeed what needed, and worry over the impending adventure to the fallen Star.
Yet, the job must be done, and young Mila takes opportunity with the crew being all here to demand a meet with the Captain, who thinks it prudent to have his mates and Ilknar there to listen. In this meeting Mila interrogates the Captain and his officers about their intentions and level of violence. Why did they destroy the Scion kingdom, the former empire of the Jesharaum? Dark magic, controlled blasts, and the loss of Skiff and nearly Rognur's family... they hoped for the right thing, and Mila seems to think they aren't too much of what one would fear, that of the murderhobo.

They crew spends the rest of the day in relative peace, with Aikhon helping Gyc find new ideas to manipulate with steel and powder, Valia sets a new tone on the boat with her odd flute to both lull and placate the crew into a sense of peace; Brimstone takes the helm, and he guides the crew through these last travels to the Star. Mila has an intense workout, that even the rest of the crew wants to emulate in the near future. Ilknar learns a great deal of infernal, and Nethpione grows quite fond of the giantkin. And, well, Roland, it is very cathartic to finally be able to have time to repair his fine suits, making them looking like how they were, crisp and clean, sharp and dapper, back in Feon when he first joined the crew.
The next day, the 4th of Ghost's Memory, Nar is making another mural, a surprise hidden under a tarp. The crew sees an odd island in the distance, and they decide to explore it.
Aikhon solidifies plans with Feanger for after the star, scales in sails, etc., and hopefully they will meet in Feon. He also scries on Z of the Black, and she is engaged in a large combat with other vessels, the Faces, the Scions, the dwarves, and one to three flying ships above; they all surround a blooming silver petal structure that encircles the fallen Star.

Afterwards, they begin to lay plans for how they may use a scalpel maneuver to not face so much of an armada alone, as one ship, but really an elite force, stealthily taking out one boat at a time.
Mila researches and attunes with the remaining water and air elementals in the belly of the Call, and she learns that magic can repair them, but powerful magic (5th level or above). At least six casts of this magic need to be done. It is only stable now, and Mila fears any jostling or violence will impede that stability. Brimstone has nearly mastered his control of the helm, this day, and Roland asks for aid for Flotsom and Vumpesh to retrofit his knuckles with explosive punches. Ilknar also spends more time with Nethpione learning infernal.

Later that night, G is met by an oppressive telepathic force, and he is made to believe, or makes it believe, he will meet with in the next day, on the beach of the island, in a shrouded lagoon.
G sees this for what it is, a powerful creature trying to find one to manipulate or eat, and he plays along, but he does go to Aikhon wakes him up with telepathy, scaring the dragonborn senseless, but eventually making the eloquent Aikhon understand that this creature is to be worried about.
The set plans for the following day to have an ambush landing party, and one to explore the odd, magical ruins of the island. These rest upon an odd grassy promontory, a knoll, and six pillars with a pointed roof cover the shadowed bodies of humanoids mulling about.
Indeed, the next morning, drums and chanting can be heard from the island, seemingly warning of what will happen next.
