Session 107: Scallwags: Seas' Preparations
General Summary
Plans are laid to upgrade the Crimson Fleet:
The Redwing's Weaponry will become arcane and explosive.
The Liberty's Fist, The Iron Sunset, and the Unshackled Horizon reinforce their hulls, and gain arcane weaponry, with Valentha's boat getting explosive rounds as well.
With this arrangement, Uldin agrees to 24 ships to join. However, Telemachus, his son, wants to take 20 of the ships, and he wants to sail across the Grey Coasts to garner more support, more ships, more men, an actual army. However, the Scallywags see a different future. They do not have the two to three months to wait for this conference. Thus, then plan ahead, taking three days for final preparations, with Telemachus meeting with the majority of the 24 vessels within 8 days of their department from Infur, the naval yard. Wulfgar suggestions at this time to have other powerful casters like himself to travel ahead, to use their abilities to slow the opposing fleet of the Queen down.
Iknar is working aboard the Iron Fist, with Nethpione handing him tools, and Deoy comes up to him complaining about a dwarf, a new addition to the crew, who so very strange, for he has no toe nails, no nails at all. Teyos and Tsara overhear, and even Krarissa and Chogim. They claim this dwarf is odd, strong beyond belief, even stronger than Mila. Later that evening, Ilknar returns to the Call, and he finds Bangrim and 76, but no one else of the Powder crew: Kolos, Argos, Dardanos, Helene, Nar, even Noodles. Soon Lady Sasha overhears, and they pressure more, trying to understand why so many are missing when there were clear orders to stay together. Lady Sasha is about to leave to go find them on the docks, and Noodles reveals himself, stating he did not join the plan, for he knew it would fail. They were invited by the dockmaster to gamble, and they wanted to make sure they could win, so they brought the wizard Nar, and they hoped for the guile and telepathy of Noodles. Without that, they seem to have been gone for over 24 hours. He takes her to them, and they in a blaze of glory take out the mob boss, and gain some extra coin in the process.
Upon return, Teyos and Chatulkik are conducting a sailor audition of sorts, for who is really worthy to lead the crew as 2nd and 3rd mate. Lady Sasha is the obvious choice, but even Wulfgar seems to be impressing the crew as possible 3rd mate to the crew. Mila ends up winning the match, but the others prove their worth; yet she does not want the title, already being a part of the Redwing's crew. The next few days ensue, with Lady Sasha and Ilknar doing a lot of help around, Wulfgar helping to plan the logistics and navigational routes with Brimstone and Aikhon and the other captains of the Crimson Fleet, Orran 'helping' with tools, but unsure of dwarven make, he often gets more than lost--and Mila helps with the other casters to secure evocation and abjuration magics needed to complete artillery upgrades.
Towards the end of the 3rd Day of Upgrading, downtime, shopping, and etc., Lady Sasha notices an odd smell, of rot and death. She follows it below deck, and she notices a few boxes shoved aside, making way for newer storage. There is something that darts back and forth, and she follows it as quickly as she can; it hides near and behind those same boxes. Thus, Lady Sasha charges forth, removing the boxes quickly, only to find an egg. Not quite large enought to be a dragon egg, but easily the size of a small halfling, it oozes and smells horrendous. She attacks it, and then it bursts with acid, burning the floor. Then, the creature that skittered acroos the floor before, jumps at her, it misses, and it tries to run, but Lady Sasha smashes it while it jumps through the air. She takes the remains, cleans them up, even if it does damage her along the way, and she throws them out to sea. She gongs, the crew must know, and she finds Yolov, who brings his odd, blind and very old dwarven friend with him. He knows these creatures, similar to those who have been found in the south in Grindstone, and also similar to ones the crew saw at the 8th Bloom a few months back. Yolov and Sasha arrange a search of the Call, and the fleet boats as a whole, and they find only two others aboard the Call. They dispose of them.
During this end, later in the day, while searching aboard the Call, Lady Sasha senses a mental tingling. She focuses on a box nearby, some food stuffs brough in by the Admiral and his people. However, this mental tingling happens again, and again. She recognizes it by this point, and her defenses pique. She opens the box with her baton ready, and she smashes the box contents completely. Blood and guts cover her and the box. She seizes a chunk of one of these brains, and she teleports away. The crew would find the remains of aberrations.
Mila has teleported back to the Admiral, to question the human lord. She finds him about to leave his duties for the day, a long few days for everyone of work and preparations. Mila does not mince words, and she gets to the point, explaining what she has is her bloodied hands, and asking the Admiral how and why this could happen. He is unsure and confused. However, he must reason this had to have been arranged by his almost to be daughter-in-law, the Lady Aestrali, a mage of the Collegiate Arcanum, and a loyalist to the Queen Jhusve. Uldin sends for her, but the guard and servants are not able to find the Lady, despite being locked up. Thus, Mila pulls out her scrying orb, well Aikhon's, and she attempts to ask the weave, the memories of Barur, to let her see the present. The winds of the weave, the skies of destiny, whirl with the crystal orb, and at first she sees no answer. It takes many minutes before it clears, and she finds--something that both Mila and Uldin recognize--the Lady Aestrali just leaving the docks of the Faces Palace, ready to climb the stairs, terraces, and gardens, to meet with, presumably, the Queen. Mila teleports to Aestrali, tackles her to the ground, and drags her off into the alleyways of the sprawling city of the Faces of the King.
Wulfgar spends some of his downtime away from the upgrades and repairs by using his dwarven history and contacts, as well as the access to the nobility he used to know from when his brother Borq was King of the Faces so many years ago. He finds three key contacts that he believes he can leverage later, as for favors later, to help locate exact locations of the King's/Queen's Fleet.
With Nethpione's aid, Ilknar is also able to sell his greataxe, and purchase some other magical items to assist with the future ventures.
Orran spends some time making soap for the crew, and he also gathers barnacles for a necklace.
