Vasilka and the Belviews are Freed

General Summary

Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 2/22/22): Penned in Seir’s Messy Hand

We join a funeral procession for one of the dead flesh constructs on our way out. I listened to some of the Abbot’s words about prayers for the Morning Lord earlier, and I realized that the prayers seemed to have some similarities to some of the ones I’ve experienced on a god called Lethander in Faerun. He is known to have real power, so it seems like this Morning Lord maybe is an alternative name to Lethander.   We take the mirror outside and I say “Lord Strahd” three times, which seems to do the work of summoning him. But it seemed to be just some sort of… recording of sorts? Perhaps he was asleep. Thoradin volunteered to be on call with Strahd while we went and did other things, with the general agreement that we would regroup later to try again at night.   Khaylen went into town, Letho took a nap, Zin and O explored the abbey, and I looked into some religious texts in the abbey.   O went to the graveyard, and found a gravestone with the name “Petrovna”, with a sun-shaped indentation. I wonder if that name has to do with this dead woman who has so much relation to Strahd?   I went to the dining hall to study the Morning Lord’s scripture with Vasilca. She points me towards the following passage:
"Strive always to aid, to foster new hope, new ideas, and new prosperity for all humankind and its allies. Perfect thyself, and guard ever against pride, for it is a sacred duty to foster new growth, nurture growing things, and work for rebirth and renewal. Be fertile in mind and body. Consider always the consequences of thine actions so that the least effort may bring the greatest and best reward. Wherever you go, sow seeds of plants, tend the growing things you find, and plant seeds of hope, new ideas, and plans for a rosy future in the minds of all. Whenever possible, see each dawn."
— Scriptures of Lathander
This is related to Lethander, as well. Vasilca confirms with me that Lethander is indeed an alternative name for the Morning Lord. She then flips to a section of a book that’s in a language I don’t recognize, and seems to be incapable of telling me the name of the language.   Letho takes off his armor to take a nap, and it walks off and goes outside. It harasses Thoradin about the mirror, and Thoradin runs after where it came from to try and figure out where Letho went, as it seems to want to take the mirror from him.   Khaylen goes into town to ask around about anyone dead or missing lately. There’s nobody. There also doesn’t seem to be much out of the ordinary in terms of local customs, besides the fact that they tend to bury their dead in their own backyards. She does find a grave that appears to have been disturbed. She finds an old gazebo with a wooden statue of a bare-chested man, in the midst of a little pond. It looks in disarray.   Khaylen, on her way back, and O were some of the first people to notice Thoardin’s distress. Khaylen tries to talk the armor down, promising that she’ll clean it or some shit.   After it’s over, Thoradin pulls out the mirror and finds that it seems like the person on the other end of the line is actually present. He tries to quiz the person on the line to try and confirm that it’s Strahd, and then switches with Khaylen. He says he’s just coming, right now. The Abbot seems a bit shocked about what’s up.   After we slap something together, we hear the screams in our head, signifying that Rahadin is coming in. He is accompanied by a well-dressed, pale, young blonde man. Letho tells his armor, who he’s named Clank, that they’re striking tonight. He can tell that the man is an undead.   The man at the door is not Strahd, but Escher. He says that he cannot pass through the threshold, but he cannot accept the hand of Vasilca. Escher says that he runs public relations for Strahd, and was the one who had sent us the care package after the house.   He also told us that Strahd is very pleased with our work throughout the valley (???). And that he wants to talk with us later.   Rahadin said that they had taken notice of the Abbot’s activities regarding Vasilca- they had overlooked his other activities regarding the other creatures, and asked him to cease his experiments. The abbot is visibly upset, and his eyes start glowing. Escher and Rahadin run off. He looks quite terrifying, actually. He starts muttering in celestial (calling out to Lethander), and then tells us to leave. Now.   As we were all leaving, Thoradin started transforming. We tied him up. Letho, however, refused to leave the abbey. He asked the abbot what Strahd did to earn his favor, and he said that Strahd had no favor, and that he wanted to bring light back to the valley and its people. The abbot got increasingly agitated, and Letho asked him if Strahd ever had light in his soul. He said that all had light in their souls. He also asked the abbot to cure him, and the abbot issued a decree: “If you heal the hollowness within your heart, I will heal the hollowness within your soul”. He very enthusiastically told Letho to go, and he did leave.   For some reason, I was left with Borokin and Thoradin while everyone went in to regroup and pull Zin, Letho, and Vasilca. All of the flesh golems are released inside the abbey, causing general bedlam.   I ended up being responsible for keeping an eye on Thoradin alone while Khaylen ran back into the abbey.   The belviews started breaking through windows and hopping out of the abbey into the forest. I admit I wasn’t too sad to see them finally regain their freedom, though I worry for the townsfolk.     I ended up being responsible for keeping an eye on Thoradin alone while Khaylen ran back into the abbey.   The belviews started breaking through windows and hopping out of the abbey into the forest.
