Thoradin is Rescued
General Summary
Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 2/15/22): Penned in Seir’s Messy Hand
We decided to go and rescue Thoradin by daylight, at Letho’s insistence. While we were on our way, Khaylen and I decided to go and fight the zombies that O reanimated yesterday. She didn’t seem to remember or see the zombies that she animated- as far as I could tell she wasn’t lying. Maybe she’s picked up some strange sort of curse as well, oh dear. She got confused by our insistence on killing the zombies and ran off ahead of us with Letho, who seemed to be doing his best to split our group up. With the wolves, Thoradin learned that the kidnapped children were there to grow the numbers of the pack, but had no explanation as to why they hadn’t been converted yet. The baron told him that converted werewolves couldn’t have children. He explained that he was able to avoid the pack because he was born a werewolf, which is a feature of his family. With the wider party, Letho approaches the aforementioned wolf-shaped cave. Letho volunteered O to go and check out the spooky cave alone, but she wasn’t super keen on the idea. So they went in together. The mysterious echoing of a flute echoed throughout the caves. Letho just started yelling for Thoradin. And they got ambushed by on the order of dozens of wolves. Letho and O were approached by Kiril, who appeared to be the leader of the wolf gang. He asked us to leave in peace, as Strahd had asked him to not attack us. He actually agreed with Letho’s request to release Thoradin, but said that Thoradin would return. Letho seems to have some trouble with the request, and Kiril was not particularly impressed by his intelligence. Thoradin decided to take advantage of the confusion to try to break out of his cage, but he was released before he could really get anywhere. All of the Strahd-talk made Letho’s armor get upset and attempt to kill Kiril, since he said that he was working with Strahd. It failed the throw horribly, so Letho tried to convince them he was voluntarily disarming himself. It seemed to… work? Thoradin was released. We decided to return to the abbey, to try to get something setup to deal with Thoradin and/or free Vasilca and/or attend the wedding. Letho talked about wanting to go to the former Mystic Lake headquarters, as he had promoted you- er, I mean Borokin, to a full knight after he had voluntarily excommunicated himself after taking in Norgannis. Borokin seemed a bit shocked at this. As we enter the abbey, we see someone digging a new grave for the bat-shaped golem that had been chained up. I asked her about what had happened, and she said that she had broken her neck. The abbot said that in other lands, werewolves transform only on the night on the full moon. In Barovia, however, it’s every night save for that of the new moon. The abbot claimed that his god only gave him enough power to heal the two of us. The abbot and Letho got into a bit of a catty argument. The abbot eventually said to us that he could heal Thoradin if we brought Strahd in. I also asked for info on the morning lord. He passed a shivering Vasilca and asked her if she wanted to come with him.
