The Abbot Heals Seir
General Summary
Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 2/1/22): Penned in Borokin’s hand, via dictation
The abbot led Zin and I into the hospital (that was haunted previously), and put him onto one of the beds that yielded disturbing visions in the past. The abbot eventually decided that nothing would happen for a few hours, after checking some of Zin’s hair. The abbot told us that Strahd should be at the abbey soon, but that he had been unable to contact him. He also told us he’d only deal with two curses. After dinner, he locked Zin in a cage in the courtyard. He said he can’t cure Zin’s curse until it has fully taken hold. Zin watched the hair grow on his hands with amazement (apparently elves don’t normally do body hair). At the winery, Thoradin, Letho, and Ezmerelda waited for Thoradin’s first change. Thoradin talked about his concerns, and Ezmerelda pulled up her pants to reveal her cool magic wooden leg. She implied she cut off the leg to prevent the spread of the werewolf infection. Letho offered to kill Thoradin if he wanted him to, but he turned it down. Thoradin hyped himself up, and his teeth fell out, replaced by wolf canines. The newly-born werewolves felt a strong call to return to their “home”, where the werewolves are supposed to go. Thoradin tried to go north, and Zin east. I wonder if we could use them to somehow localize where the pack is meant to be, and had you try to indicate the direction Zin was looking in on the map. Thoradin ripped through the ropes on the tree, and ran north, towards the pack. He was full wolf/dwarf hybrid, howling. All the way in Kresk, Zin heard and recognized him. Letho wanted to chase him (but couldn’t find him), and Ezmerelda fled to Kresk to get some backup. Ezmerelda seemed to think it was best for Thoradin to go to the wolf pack, saying something about him going there to get wolfsbane. Ezmerelda said that the only wolfsbane she was able to find was the family’s in Kresk, and guessed that the wolf pack would maybe cultivate some. There were some concerns that Thoradin might feel allegiance to the pack over us, even after reverting back. Zin had a pretty calm night, and was acting like he was coming down from something pretty strong in the morning, after he reverted back. He seemed like he had drank a lot, but was calm and in a good mood. Over to Thoradin. He woke up as a normal dwarf, with some vague recollections with meeting up with the back and howling together. The wolves apparently have an aggressively cool hideout in the mountains at a rock that looks like a giant wolf’s maw. There is a set of cages in the hideout, full of captive children, looking like they were in shock. Inside one, the Baron of Kresk. There’s a statue of a wolf-headed woman, with offering strewn at its base. In the back of the room, a pile of corpses. Thoradin tries to talk to her but she ignores him, and walks off, crying about something. After she was gone, Thoradin tried to break out of his cage, following the baron’s hushed advice to keep quiet. Through a series of knocks, the baron explained to Thoradin that he came after the wolves to try and rescue his son, and Thoradin told him about how we were able to rescue him. Their impromptu guard returned though, so the escape had to be stopped for the moment. Back at the abbey. With relatively little pomp and circumstance, the abbot sat both me and Zin down and… Healed us? I couldn’t believe it for the first few moments. But the icy feeling in my soul… began to melt away. My eyes started growing back, but they did so quite slowly. I waited eagerly for them to come back. We reunited with Letho and made plans to go and rescue Thoradin. I mentioned how we met Strahd in a mirror, and that seemed to perturb the abbot some. O wanted to talk to Vasilca alone, and she asked the abbot to leave us alone with her to let her try on her dress. The abbot let O and Khaylen do it, but not any of us red-blooded men. O tried to engage Vasilca again, and tried to press her on whether or not she wanted to stay. Vasilca scratched at her arm and then said nothing. She seemed very uncomfortable in her own skin, like she didn’t want to be there, but wouldn’t speak specifically. Khaylen tried to charm her to make her more comfortable to answer questions, and she seemed to quiet somewhat and pointed to her head, saying “in here… we are still in here.” It sounds to me like maybe she retains the consciousness of all of the people whose bodies made her up, and they feel trapped and stuck inside her body. I agree with their desire to help her, but it seems like… we need a stronger position before we make some sort of audacious play like that, especially since he helped us. Khaylen complimented O on her plan, which made her pretty happy.
