More Revenants at the Order

General Summary

Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 4/19/22): Penned in Seir’s Messy Hand

While resting, I found that the wand I had was a wand of magic detection, while the torch we found was an everburn torch.   We decided to investigate the exterior mausoleum, in search of a way to deal with the revenants that guarded the chapel. While in the yard, we looked up at the mansion and we spotted a man on the upper floor of the manor. He quickly drew the curtains shut when he noticed our attention.   In the graveyard, I noticed five disturbed graves- a problem given the fact that we only noticed three creatures. The graves were from very long ago- there were dates, but the dating system was unfamiliar to me. I didn’t see anything interesting written on their graves, so I looked around for signs of necromatic rituals. The area had a strong sense of necromancy around it, but I didn’t see anything specific.   The rest of the group checked out the mausoleum, which had the name Argynvostia- which makes sense, given that this building is called Argynvostholt. Thoradin managed to shove the door open with some effort. Inside the mausoleum, there were four empty alcoves. Etched into the far wall was an inscription in draconic- “Here lie the bones and treasures of Argynvostia, founder of the order of the silver dragon”.   We didn’t see too much in there, so we returned to the mansion to see if we could find that fellow we talked to earlier.   In the room where we tried to sleep,we looked out through the window to see a graveyard. A mausoleum sat out there, but the fog was a little too thick to see much. There were a lot of weapons on the walls. I spotted a rapier, and Khaylen goaded me into picking it up. I was startled when I picked them up, thinking that the surrounding statues started looking at me, but Thoradin assured me that it was just an illusion.   O walked out onto a balcony over the chapel, where she spotted an exquisite wooden throne. Thoradin walked northwards on the second floor and found a relatively recent dead body, with flesh, hacked to pieces with a sword. The southern section seemed to be pretty badly damaged. Letho found the inscriptions on the swords to be fairly familiar; they didn’t seem to have anything to do with the order of the silver dragon.   Letho and Khaylen passed through a door into a guestroom, draped in cobwebs. There was also a framed portrait of a handsome, well-dressed man with great hair- the same man we saw upstairs earlier. They also spotted a big black marble fireplace.   O and I opened a door into a mostly collapsed room, with a chest placed precipitously near the edge of a large drop. Khaylen reached out with her mage hand to open it and check around inside. Inside, she found some destroyed armor and clothes, and a tiny stuffed doll of a silver dragon.   Thoradin opens a door into a hallway, which feels almost too large for where he’s at. As he steps through the door, he hears a grinding behind him, and he realizes he can no longer see behind him.   We all simultaneously hear battle cries throughout the manor: “To arms, silver knights!” The door ahead of Thoradin flew open as ghostly figures appeared. Khaylen and Thoradin ran to opposite ends of a wall and yelled at each other through it, while a small dragon of ash manifested near Khaylen. He was very cute and flew right past us. I tried to dispel the wall blocking off Thoradin but failed.   Thoradin tried to attack the ghosts and only succeeded at shooting through them. So he broke a window and jumped out of the building. Unfortunately, the ghosts started chasing after him. Eventually, though, as he neared the woods, the ghosts stopped following him.   Letho and I started following after the dragon, which flew upstairs, in the hope that it could lend us some insight into what was happening, as even magical attacks seemed to pass the ghosts on by. On the third floor, we heard two distinct voices making unintelligible whispers. The floor was mostly collapsed. I dropped my rapier onto the ground, just in case having it was pissing off these ghosts.. Letho ran forward and discovered a large audience hall, full of bones and rubble. To the west, there was a throne resembling a dragon with folding wings. Slumped in the throne was an armored figure. The dragon perched itself on the back of the throne and hissed.   The figure waved at us, and the ghosts disappeared. He told us to go away.   Khaylen took Borokin on her back and ran downstairs, O joining her in the dash.
