Leaving Argynvostholt
General Summary
Excerpt from Seir’s Little Black Book (Session 4/26/22): Penned in Seir’s (slightly neater) Hand
Outside, the group noticed the ghosts disappear. A little puff of mist came out of the mouth of the dragon’s statue- the trap had been reset, though unfortunately it hadn’t lasted. I told the man upstairs that we were looking for someone in the castle, on the upper floors. Letho cut in and explained that he wanted to help deal with the curse. The man didn’t seem to be fully corporeal. He also confirmed that the Order of the Silver Dragon and the Order of the Mystic Lake are one and the same, and Letho figured out that he was undead, and that there were six more undead presences around the throne. The man us that the headwaters used to be a sacred place, that brought good into the world. And then Strahd came. Apparently, his armies attacked the order, and murdered the Lady. He then apologized to Letho for the curse, and told us that killing Strahd may remove the curse. On our way out, we saw a war-council type room full of corpses. One amongst them, sitting in a far corner, had long flowing hair. But he still looked like a corpse. We decide to put everything we found back, and then slept on the first floor for the night after a cursory check-in with those in the other room. Letho is asked to bring the remains of the dragon back to the castle, in the hope that it would help Vladimir (maybe the man we talked to) give up his undead shenanigans, as he blamed himself for everything that happened and seemed to be unwilling to do anything to move forward as a means of penance. Savid describes Arabelle to us. Apparently, she’s a very young child. She’s pale and has black hair. She disappeared two and a half days ago, so she could be a casualty to the werewolf kidnappings, but the timing’s tight. Savid also told us that the new management at Villacki is not particularly nice to the vistani. He talked about Berez and told us there wasn’t anything there. On our walk to Villacki, we pass by an empty shack with the door ajar. Thoradin, Zin Letho, and I stop by. There’s a dead rabbit on the floor, looking like its head was beat with blunt force. But there was nothing inside. As we left, the rabbit started sliding across the floor. Someone had cast some sort of enchantment on it and was moving it. I tried to talk to them but they ignored me, besides making the rabbit wave at me. As we walk east a flock of ravens fly west overhead. Without too much effort, we get to Villacki. Thoradin, Khaylen, the bellvues, and Savid walk around the outside while the rest of us go and buy food. In Villacki, we notice fewer children about. Urwin said that the church was keeping its activities on a tighter leash, and the children in general haven’t been seen. We decide to go to the Blue Water inn first to get food, and then stop off at the smithy to buy arrows, and then the stockyard. Urwin tells us that his family is going to Krezk, and sells me some food. He also offers Zin some fermenting fruit juice, and they have a talk about brewing alcohol. On our way out, we see a dark hooded figure step out onto the road. They’re holding several sun effigies. I found some arrows for Khaylen and bolts for Thoradin, though they weren’t silvered. On our way out, the imp flew to my shoulder and let us know that Lady Wockter was happy for us to visit her. I felt a little guilty about not visiting her on the way in. The Vistani seemed to believe that the missing child may be in Villacki, so Khaylen offered to go along to Savid’s camp and talk with them to see what’s going on. Seir, Letho, O, and Borokin go into the city to investigate what’s going on, while Khaylen goes to the camp and Zin and Thoradin run watch outside.
