Saint Indirov
Saint Indirov the Stalwart
Saint Indirov is a canonised Saint of the Morninglord, who exemplifies "the persistence, inevitability, and enduring nature of the dawn."
In life, Indirov was a gravedigger from Barovia who, whilst burying scores of dead soldiers during the Pallor, came under attack. The young gravedigger refused to run and leave the honoured dead unburied, so stood his ground and continued to work. In this process, he was shot with arrows, run through with spears, and hacked apart with swords and axes, yet never perished. It is said his attackers — so dismayed by what they saw — fled from the scene, giving Indirov enough time to dig his own grave and bury himself. His grave, a sight of pilgrimmage, is at the centre of the cemetery of the Chapel of St. Indirov, named for him.
