Mortu

The Mortu are a sub-culture of Vistani, specifically those who have been outcast and discarded from their people. Traditionally extremely family-oriented, a Vistana must do something incredibly transgressive to be declared Mortu. Notably, the children of Mortu (if they can manage to find someone to have children with them) are not necessarily considered Mortu themselves, and can be claimed by the Vistani if given over to them.
Once declared Mortu, no Vistani will dare work with them, nor even acknowledge their existence. The Mortu also lose connection to their ancestral magics, meaning they cannot read Tarokka, are not protected by the Evil Eye, and cannot pass through the Mists.
In total, there are less than 100 Mortu in Barovia.
