Maryland

Maryland's history goes far back into the mists of times. There have been people there for time immemorial, living in the forests, and among the hills. It wasn't until the white man came in 1498. They came in dregs at first, explorers and adventure seekers. But eventually, they came in a full wave of colonization that swept away the old world. In 1632 it was granted by King Charles I to Lord Calvert, and opened for colonization a few years later. Maryland was notable for being a haven for Roman Catholics, which in England was anathema.   Maryland would be vital in the Revolutionary War, and would be the seventh state to ratify the Constitution. The state would be strategically vital during the Civil War, and would continue to be important even until the modern day. Baltimore grew from a trading post, to one of the largest cities on the East Coast, linked to the rest of the nation by rail, and sea. The Bay fuelded the growth of Maryland, and the state rapidly became one of the most populous in the United States. Maryland would be a key state in moments such as the Civil Rights Movement, and is one of the most vital states to this day.
