The Thimble
The Tailors and Linen-workers guild, originally two guilds joined into one single organization. The guild started simply as the Tailor's Guild in the early fifth century, primarily as a way for men to move in on a trade that was becoming increasingly lucrative, while also being seen as primarily the domain of women: sewing and clothes-making. This allowed men to enter the trade and attempt to establish rules to undercut the current women in trade while also preventing them from joining the guild. This created a number of trade disputes between the clothing-makers and sewing-shops and the new Tailor's Guild, ultimately boiling over in the Bodkin Riot in which 13 people were killed. The rising disagreements led to the Clothery Proclamation of 462, in which the the Linen-workers guild was formed by Princely order and joined with the Tailor's guild to create the Thimble. Since the order, the Thimble is run by two joint Guildmasters, one from each of its subsidiary parts with equal say; they operate independent shops under the same guild seal with a separate sub-seal. The guildhall, and most of the highest profile Thimble operated shops are located in the The Hale. In the early part of the 6th century, the prominence of the The Spool, and the "The Upraising of the Guilds" led the Thimble to ally themselves under their council representation.
The Thimble is represented by the guild-seal of a Thimble and Bodkin, with the Tailor's sub-seal including an iron and the Linen sub-seal including a pair of linen-shears.
The Thimble is rumored to create specialty items for especially wealthy and connected clients. This is thought to include tailored, concealed, magical cloth armor which can be worn under common garments without bringing attention to itself, as well as glamoured clothing which presents as armor (even at times plate) to all but the most keen-eyed observer.
