Looking for a Place to Happen - H&C 1

General Summary

The PCs head off to the northeast, looking for a passage through the Wolfmond Ridge. Rumors have been circulating that an earthquake (or some other unknown entity) has cleared the way through. It has been around 4 weeks since the pass collapsed, cutting the Amelin Resources town of New Danforth off from the rest of their holdings. The company decided that it was not financial viable to reopen and rebuild the link to New Danforth, leaving the colonists to fend for themselves.   On their travels, Taxman spots a tall radio tower and flies off to investigate. The area dips into a valley and a small portable structure is seen close by the tower. He signals the others and they stop nearby. Oilslick gets out of his mech and breaks into the structure. He sees several computer terminals with a large amount of data storage. He gathers up the drives and they scrap the unit.   The group is attacked by a hidden gun emplacement with only Disco Inferno taking damage. A strange sand spout billows up and moves towards the mechs. They head north away from it and begin receiving a strange garbled transmission. Ironsides records the pattern on his data tablet. Upon replaying the brief message, a large drone from Hammerarm attacks the mechs. It is quickly dispatched and scrapped.   Ironsides replays the transmission and discovers that the message has now changed. The length is the same but the transmission is now in Spanish. As he opens up the tablet, he sees an image of a young Filipino woman, waving her hands up to get his attention. She says she is Hope Okampa, a graduate student studying the Meld (a nanotechnology phenomena unique to Kanaloa). Her team encountered a large formation at the bottom of a sinkhole in the valley. All three (Hope included) ended up being absorbed by the pool of Meld.   Hope learned how to transmit over the tower's radio waves and installed herself on the tablet in the hope that she can be reassembled in the physical world.
