Whale’s Fall

“ [...] But one day, Ordryn grew much too heavy for his mountain. He fell down through the earth into the hollows, where he sank into a deep, oily lake. We found him as soon as we could, but . . .   There was a mighty whale inside the lake that rivals even mother Ruuben, and she swallowed Ordryn whole. We could hear him crying inside her belly but we could not kill the fish ourselves.”
— Wax Maiden

Purpose / Function

At the bottom of Ordryn’s Chapel lies an oily sea, home to Godswallower Yaheel, a luminescent white whale that births itself from the carcasses littering the final steps of the chapel’s labyrinthian staircase.   During their attempt to rescue Ordryn from the center of the world, his followers built a white-stone staircase into the earth, eventually discovering Whale’s Fall. Desperate to scour the waters for their god, the followers dug into the recesses of what was left of Ordryn’s Chapel and attempted to build further into the sea. Haunted by what is described as horrible wailing, the followers eventually accepted that the white whale had swallowed Ordryn and shifted their religious practices to instead worship Godswallower Yaheel.   Whale’s Fall is accessible through the Whale Choir, a rudimentary cathedral built by Ordryn’s followers after discovering Godswallower Yaheel. In order to be granted access to the Whale Choir, player characters must first encounter the Wax Maiden in the lower half of Ordryn’s Chapel. If killed, the Wax Maiden drops the Lower Crypt Key and the Moldy Doll. Upon death, players will be forced to access the Whale Choir by dropping off a series of ledges leading down from Ordryn’s Chapel.
