Personal history
- Gilberte Guillaume Mercier was born on October 7, 1679 CE in Saint-Domingue to a peasant mother and a sailor father.
- He had one sister, Hélène, who was two years younger than him. Both children were known to be quite large for their ages and were much physically stronger than their peers.
- When Gilberte was 6, his father was killed while out sailing. This left the family without a source of income until their mother got a job at the local tavern which she, and later Hélène after their mother's passing, came to own; The Toothy Kracken. This is where both of the children spent much of their formative years, helping out surrounded by sailors, pirates and all folks in between.
- When Gilberte was old enough, he set out with a pirate crew who were regulars at the tavern, slowly working his way up through the ranks until he was the captain of his own ship, the Crimson Treasure by age 30.
- At age 25, Gilberte, now called Magnum due to his large size, lost his right leg due to an accident with a canon. He lost his left leg at age 32 due to an incident with a shark.
- Magnum passed away in 1719 at age 39 after being cornered by some privateers. When given the option to surrender and face trial, Magnum elected instead to send his ship and himself to Davy Jones's locker.
