Free Republics of the West
A set of "free" trading city-states encompassing the port cities of Ampstead, Hillhelm, Ninthmire, Straitscester, Woestead.
They are some of the oldest settled cites in Azthir-Terra, marking the spot where humans from the so-called Forgotten Lands first settled these shores. Or so the stories go. Most people view stories of the Forgotten Lands as a myth, a long-lost garden of innocence whence Humans emerged.
The Republics base their economy on sea trade, and everything that can be traded can be found in the Free Republics, including slaves, one of the only places in Azthir-Terra where it's not banned. Convicted criminals usually face death or enslavement as punishment, and all of the city-states keep large armies and navies to put down any nascent slave rebellions.
The merchant fleets of Ninthmire and Woestead are the largest and can be found in most ports of Azthir-Terra, but the other city-states are always in fierce competition with these two merchant republics.
