Chambon
Capital of the Magocracy of Marithel and home to the Arcane Brotherhood
Located on the temperate seashore, where the vegetation is lush, Chambon grew around the mouth of a river, and is comprised mostly of humans, with Halflings, Half-Elves, Half-Orcs, Tieflings, and Dragonborn making up much of the rest. Elves are rare, dwarves less so. They are a feudalist magocratic republic that follows the Eastern Way, but there are a few followers of Valês, although they are viewed with suspicion given the current war. The nearest landmark is a small clearing between some rocks, with three sitting petrified trolls, with horrified looks in their faces. A population of 35,000, the denizens live a wealthy existence.Economics
Caveat emptor is the guiding philosophy of Chambon, and people live a wealthy existence because of it. Without any taxes or regulations, the free market reigns supreme here. Welfare is average. Citizens can find an education, provided they can pay for it. Healthcare is overtaxed and underfunded, and the government hides behind layers of bureaucracy to dodge complaints.Law and Order
The guard is extremely strict, with citizens being forced to carry licenses, identification papers, and travel permits. The local guard, The Order of the Obsidian Flame, is extremely well armed, and brutality is commonplace. Law in Chambon is very much punitive based, and those that breach the laws can expect hard labor, incarceration, or sometimes public execution. Crime is an ugly stain on humanity, to be punished. Magic is typically only for the ruling class of mages who govern Chambon. Those who cast spells within Chambon are seen as politicians more than awe-inspiring heroes.Demographics
