Stones of Olmytria (ohl-mee-tree-uh)

The Stones of Olmytria are one of three surviving sets of stones dedicated to a god of the Light Pantheon. Scholars and historians believe there were once stones for each of the gods in this pantheon (minus the members of The Four), but many are believed to have been destroyed or hidden during the time of The Smiting. Archaeologists are constantly following leads and looking for more Stones around the world.   The Stones of Olmytria are specifically dedicated to the Shepherd of the Fallen and many believe they have the power to bring a loved one back to life or to ensure their soul is delivered to the preferred positive plane. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of people make their way to these stones every year - some of them devout followers of Olmytria on a holy pilgrimage and others just common people who hope to gain the boons of the Stones. According to stories of those who have been blessed, the hopeful must sit still inside the ring of stones for 24 hours without consuming food or drink and without speaking. Even those who do this are not guaranteed to be blessed or "chosen", as there are many documented cases of people following this prescription and coming away without the blessing.   Part of the challenge of getting to and praying at these Stones is their location. They lie in the Frozen North beyond the borders of Oestbernia, and thus are not under that nation's protection. Pilgrims are encouraged to travel in groups and pay for guards to watch over them while they pray, and many mercenaries wait in the nearby towns to provide just these services. It is not uncommon for someone traveling to or praying at the Stones to be attacked by northern raiders or various tundra beasts like polar bears, remorhazes, etc. Some even go slightly off course to seek out these challenges, believing that going through such an ordeal makes their pleas to Olmytria more likely to succeed (most who do this do not make it to the Stones anyway).
