Crann Sinsear (crawn sin-shar)

Crann Sinsear is a sacred tree for the elvish people and all adherents of nature deities. Translated as "tree of the ancients" this tree has allegedly been around since the beginning of the world, created by the goddess Gaela and later gifted to her child Síohann. According to elvish creation myth, the first elves were born within this tree and sent forward into the Sinsear Forest to protect the natural order.   The elven capital city of Fianna'bhaile is built around and very near this sacred tree, without actually touching the tree. Nature priests and druids from around the world make a pilgrimage to this tree at least once in their lifetime, though these are about the only outsiders the elven kingdom allows into their territory. There have not been many attacks or incursions into the elven lands over the course of history, but the elves that live here take a sacred vow to protect the tree with their lives if necessary.   The tree itself is over 300 feet tall with a canopy that spreads out over a more than 300 foot diameter at its widest. It has several different layers of leaves and canopy, though with all of its leaf coverage it snuffs out most light from reaching the forest floor. This makes the elvish capital even stranger to outsiders: in addition to its unique architecture, the only light is from a few dozen floating yellow-orange orbs that illuminate the city's buildings - or at least the ones in the shadow of the tree.
