Puerzocola

Overview

Puerzocola is a small, roughly triangular shaped island located off the southwest corner of the neighbouring island Corbo in the Isles of Ilhon. It is a rugged and isolated landmass shrouded in mystery and danger. Its mountainous terrain and countless hidden coves make it a favoured location for smugglers and pirates looking for secluded stash spots or places to lay low, and treasure seekers hunting fortunes fabled to be hidden in those spots. However, despite its proximity to Corbo, the ruling faction there struggle to maintain control of Puerzocola due to the ever present threat of Ghost Captain Kaven Perala and The Ghost Fleet that he leads.

Geography

Shaped like a triangle with rounded corners, the jagged coastline gives Puerzocola a wild and untamed appearance. The island's small size belies its complexity, with rugged mountains and rocky outcropping dominating the landscape, and coves and caverns providing labyrinths within.
Like the whole of the Isles, the climate is tropical, with flora and fauna to suit such a climate - where they can find spaces to do so.

History

Historically, whomever controls Corbo controls Puerzocola. Captain Kaven Perala was one such ruler of Corbo at the time of his mysterious death and undeath. Now he and his Ghost Fleet roam the waters around Puerzocola, preventing access when encountered. It is said that Puerzocola is where Perala kept his fortune and his spiritual punishment is to never be able to step foot on the land of the island ever again. As a result, he patrols the island, attempting to prevent others from finding his lair.
This is a particular problem for treasure seekers. Only the desperate risk using the island as a stash point these days, but those that hunt treasures are marginally less deterred, to their folly. It is one thing to avoid the Ghost Fleet once, on arrival, it is another to escape again unscathed. Very few manage to achieve that feat, and even less wish to advertise they managed it as there is usually good reason to keep such an adventure secret...
Many a legendary artifact is said to lay in the coves of Puerzocola, some such as the legend of the region - the Tear of the Moon - have stronger ties to potentially residing on the island.
