The Shattered Peak

Summary

The Shattered Peak is said to be a mountain that has no real place in the physical world. However, when one is lost and surrounded by fog, the shattered peak can be seen. Looming close, but out of reach. No matter how fast or how hard a person runs, they can never reach its base.

It matters not where on Axeram you stand, for the mountain is not restrained by the physical. It can be seen by anyone, but only once.

Historical Basis

The shattered peak was the location where The Dealer once banished The Shadow. The event itself caused the mountain's peak to shatter, the residual magic of the banishment locked large chunks of the earth in stasis above the slopes of the mountain. The mountain was also sent into The Divide, a place between physical realms.

Spread

The myth of the shattered peak is spread to every corner of Axeram, though not believed by everyone. However, the true nature of the event is known only to The Venientium , The Guardians and the few Veldren old enough to remember the event.

Variations & Mutation

The myth of the shattered peak has had many names, as different people experienced it around the world. Some people claimed an ancient treasure lay within, or a great beast. some of the Veldren who still worship the Ven, believe it is the manifestation of Axeram's heart, shattered ever since the ascension of the guardians and their massacre of the Ven.

Cultural Reception

Whilst the shattered peak is mostly regarded as some kind of supernatural phenomenon, there are some cultures that believe it is an omen of change and rebirth. A symbol for the viewer to change the path they walk and embrace a new life.

There have been many books written on the shattered peak. Tales of scholars who theorised its origin. Embellished tales of brave adventurer's who allegedly walked its distant slopes. Poems of its ethereal beauty, novels that fantasize about what lies within the mountain.
