Royal Paintbrush of Lunaria

Possibly the most useful and important paintbrush on the continent.
— Lara Dawn, Painter
A paintbrush used by the Lunarian royal family to create enchanted body paint designs. The special properties of this brush makes each stroke of body paint more magically potent than with most other kinds of writing implements. The origins and makings of this item is a subject of some speculation. Some suspect that Lunaria's paintbrush has an Ancient Order origin.

Lunarian Body Paint

Permanent body paint is a custom of the Lunarian people. The paint is awarded to members of Lunarian society as they reach important milestones in their lives. The paint grants enhancements to some ability for each person. The body paint is usually drawn in patterns usually constellations. Constellations generally have special significance to a Lunarian.

Appearance

The brush is of the pointed-round type. Its bristles are midnight black when not stained with colorful paint. It is capable of drawing the finest lines when wielded by a master artist.   If the animal from which the bristles are made have been identified, the royal family is not telling. They do have the special property of never seeming to wear out. Of course this may be due to special care in cleaning and preserving. How the brush is maintained is something of a secret known only to the royal family and select individuals.   The handle is made of a kind of dark hard wood stained midnight purple. This handle is polished to a perfectly reflective sheen. The ferrule is silver in appearance and is believed to be mithral. This piece has a fine engraving of the moon with all of its features. This is said to glow when the brush is in use.

An Ancient Artifact

There is reason to believe that the royal paintbrush is an artifact of the The Ancient Order. This artifact may be responsible for the emergence of the practice of magical Lunarian permanent body paint, although there is not enough proof on record to support this idea.   How the paintbrush survived the The Great Collapse and the lingering wild magics since is not known. Perhaps there's something in the Royal Lunarian Library that can shed light on this, but the library is of course well guarded.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

I wonder if there are more paintbrushes like it to be found. - Archivist Enna    It is possible, though we Archivists do not yet know how this particular paintbrush has survived all these years. That is assuming its ancient origin is true. - Archivist Taenya Naïlo

This is such a fun response to the prompt! It's so unique and specific to your world that it really stood out to me. I appreciate the way it reads like a real entry in a journal or log and the mystery that is tied to it. It makes for a great story thread too. Well done!
